American Idol 8: So America, Love Them Or Hate Them, Here Is Your Top 36

This week on American Idol, two big cuts were made. At the end of Wednesday night’s show we were left with our top 36 and for the most part, it’s a good one! This is the first time we’ve had a top 36 (we’ve had a top 30, 32, and 24) so it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks unfold.
Tuesday night’s show covered the fourth and final day of the Hollywood round. Each contestant was allowed to sing solo with the band and backup singers, as well as play a musical instrument if they so wished. At the end of the day, the contestants were broken up into four separate rooms. Only one room was cut. Thankfully, Michael Castro was in that room.
On Wednesday night, the remaining contestants were brought back in front of the judges for their final judgment. Normally the contestants do not sing in this round, their previous tapes are simply reviewed. However, this season a handful of contestants were asked to sing one final time before they were told if they made it or not.
So America, love them or hate them, here is your top 36.
Anoop Desai- Anoop gave solid and at times incredible performances throughout Hollywood. His top 36 spot is much deserved as is his appointment with the AI stylists.
Von Smith- I didn’t like Von all that much in the beginning. I agreed with Simon that his first performance in Hollywood was over the top and self-indulgent. However, his last performance in Hollywood was his best yet and had me liking him just a bit.
Alex Wagner- Alex had to sing for his life on Wednesday against Cody Sheldon. I actually think Cody is a better singer and far more interesting than Alex. The judges picked Alex though. I think the rest of his stay will be short lived.
Adam Lambert- A tough one for me. He’s an okay singer, and an okay performer, I just don’t really like him. Maybe he’ll grow on me.
Taylor Vaifanua- Taylor’s original audition was one of my favorites. She came to Hollywood week sporting a new look and it has worked wonders for her. I love, love, love her!
Jasmine Murray- My little Jasmine! Watch out for her, she’s the real deal.
Arianna Afsar- Another one of my initial favs but hasn’t gotten as much air time lately. I look forward to hearing more from her.
Casey Carlson- I can’t remember too much about her other than thinking she would be an okay country singer.
Megan Corkey- I remember liking her audition (she was the divorced mother at only 23 remember?) but since then has not been seen.
Mishavonna Henson- She was very briefly introduced to us Tuesday night. From that one and only clip I thought she was good, but not great.
Stevie Wright- Stevie was my number.....
