American Idol: Simon And Paula Reach Out To Jennifer Hudson October 28, 2008
American Idol judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul have offered their condolences to season three contestant Jennifer Hudson, whose mother, brother and nephew were found murdered this week.
“This is a horrific tragedy and my thought and prayers go out to Jennifer and her entire family,” Abdul said Monday. "The time I had to get to know Jennifer and forge a wonderful friendship with her while she was on Idol was very special to me, and I personally can't imagine a greater loss for any family."
Cowell added that he was “horrified” after hearing the news. “I was horrified when I heard the news. This is an appalling tragedy. My thoughts right now are with Jennifer, and her family,” he told Extra.
Last Friday, Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were found dead in the family’s Chicago home. Both had been shot to death. Her nephew, 7-year-old Julian King, was missing and an Amber Alert was issued for him. King’s body was found yesterday in a white SUV that authorities named in the Amber Alert. He had also been shot multiple times.
The estranged husband of Julian’s mother, Julia Hudson, is being questioned in the case. William Balfour, 27, was taken into custody Friday after the murders of Donerson, 57, and Hudson, 29. Charges against Balfour have not been filed.
Hudson, 27, got her start on American Idol. She later starred in 'Dreamgirls,' for which she won an Oscar. Hudson currently stars in the new movie 'The Secret Life of Bees.'
