American Idol 8: The Final 2 - The Next American Idol Will Be

Its the American Idol finals week and this is our final prediction.
Over 88 million votes were cast last week and Danny Gokey went home. And to remind you, less than one million votes separated Adam and Kris and we don't know which of them had the higher total.
It has been assumed for weeks that Adam Lambert would win this. Several Reality TV Calendar writers have been predicting it from as early as the Top 13. But it was also assumed that the final two would be Adam and Danny, although many wanted it to be Adam and Allison.
Last week we were surprised that Danny went home and that the race between Adam and Kris was so close. Now the question is just how big is the fan base for Kris? And the really big question, the one that has Adam fans terrified, is where will the Danny votes go? Most people are saying that Danny's votes will go to Kris because there is less of a stylistic difference between Danny and Kris than compared to Adam and Kris. It does make sense.
But another question is, how many of Danny's supporters will actually bother to vote? The answer to that question will probably decide who will be the next American Idol.
What everyone thought would be a blow out for Adam may prove to be very close, or even an upset.
Its a very tough prediction for the Reality TV Calendar staff. But we'll try our best.

All season long I have given the weekly standout performance to Adam Lambert because, in my opinion, he deserved it. Each week he showed us that he is more than a karaoke singer. He doesn't imitate the original performers. He is an artist in his own right and he is a performer who understands showmanship. He has never failed to deliver and last night was no exception. He simply did it again.
His performance of Mad World was incredible the first time and even better last night.
There are those of you reading this that are old enough to remember when Pat Boone and Elvis Presley were coming onto the scene. There was a sort of competition between the two of them. Created not by themselves, but by the media and the public. Boone was perceived as the clean cut, wholesome all American boy who could sing. Elvis was perceived as the rebel who could sing and was a great showman. He was hip, cool and a bit of a threat to conservative America. At the beginning of his career there were even questions about his sexuality.
The comparison of Pat Boone and Elvis to Kris and Adam works. Both had successful careers but only Elvis became a legend. An icon of American pop culture. It may be a little to early to say that Adam will become a legend but I think it is fair to say that Adam's career, whether he wins American Idol or not, will far surpass that of Kris.
I think Adam should win American Idol. But I am not at all sure he will. I was stunned to learn last week that less than a million votes separated Adam and Kris, and we don't even know whether it was Adam or Kris with the lead. I am sure that sent a message to Adam fans that said “if you want your boy to win, you better vote your butts off”. But Kris' fans got that exact same message. They were given proof that Kris actually has a chance to win this. And he does.
I have to make a prediction and I will, I think Adam will pull it off. I think even the conservative American Idol audience prefers Elvis to Pat. By just a little. But it all depends on where Danny Gokey's votes go, and how many of his fans vote.
