Previously on American Idol 2010, the audition tour made stops in L.A. and Dallas. This week, the show stopped in Denver on Tuesday and had an audition tour wrap-up on Wednesday. Now, I'm here to take you through both shows to see what other talented folks emerge.
In Denver, where Victoria Beckham returns as guest judge, the first person we see is Mark Labriola, a 28 year old computer consultant from Aurora, CO. He claims that people always tell him he looks like Jack Black. I actually don't think he looks anything like Jack Black. I think he looks like a more polished, put-together version of Chris Sligh. In the judging room, Mark tells the judges he likes cheese and relates a story of how his mother ran off with him without his dad's consent as a child. Ok, cheese and kidnapping.
He auditions with, "Tempted," by some artist whose name I don't catch and he has a fantastic pop & soul voice. Good sense of rhythm too. The like his honesty and are pleasantly surprised by how well he can sing. All four judges give him a yes vote and Mark is through to Hollywood.
The next person we see is 25 year old Mario Galvan, a counselor from Denver. He's also a Yoda impersonator. Well, not really, but you take a look at how he's dressed and tell me what you see. He also has a nervous laugh. Yeah, I'm confident about this one. He auditions with, "Jailhouse Rock," and is awful. The judges, unsurprisingly, pass.
With her daughter in tow, we then meet Kimberly Kerbow, a 24 year old college student from Marina Del Ray, CA. Hey, I'm a 24 year old college student too! Although, I'm from Texas. Mugging for the camera, Kimberly's daughter tells us her mom is the next American Idol. Speaking of mom, she auditions with, "The Way I Am," by Ingrid Michaelson. Her voice is pretty, but maybe too pretty for me. It's just so sweet and soft. The judges like her and out her through to the Hollywood Rounds.
A montage of successful auditioners acts as a segue to Danelle Hayes, a 24 year old karaoke host/singer from Seattle. She tells us that it's tough to make a living off of her karaoke gig, especially with a three year old child, but she's hoping being on Idol will lead to bigger and better things. She gets emotional in the judging room, admitting that pursuing this dream has been more difficult than she thought and the judges offer her some encouragement. She auditions with, "I'm The Only One," by Melissa Etheridge and her voice is so powerful! She's got a big voice, but she also has this raw, earthy vibe. I feel she just radiates realness and natural ability. I like her. The judges feel her audition was moving and cool, so they send her to Hollywood.
After Danelle, we come to a total hottie named Casey James, a 27 year old musician from Fort Worth, TX. Really good-looking and from TX? I hope he can sing! He tells us of a motorcycle accident he was in at the age of 21 and how he's persevered to get back to music. He thinks he could have a shot if he can just make it to Hollywood.
He starts his audition with.....
