Gone too early.
This week on American Idol, the top twelve finalists took the stage on the same night for the first time.
Tonight, two of them will be sent home.
Here’s how last night’s Rolling Stones themed performances went:
Michael Lynch – “Miss You” – judges liked it
Didi Benami – “Play with Fire” – judges liked it
Casey James – “It’s All Over Now” – judges liked it
Lacey Brown - “Ruby Tuesday” – judges kind of liked it
Andrew Garcia – “Gimme Shelter” – most judges didn’t like it
Katie Stevens – “Wild Horses” – judges liked it
Tim Urban – “Under my Thumb” – judges didn’t like it
Siobhan Magnus – “Paint it Black” – judges loved it
Lee Dewyze – “Beast of Burden” – judges liked it
Paige Miles – “Honky Tonk Woman” – judges kind of liked it
Aaron Kelly – “Angie” – judges liked it a lot
Crystal Bowersox – “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” – judges mostly liked it
After the judges are introduced, Simon gives Ryan a weird scolding about his “aggressive behavior” last night. He asks for an apology of some sort, and Ryan politely declines. Then Simon explains that the “judges’ save” begins this week. They can save any contestant up until the top five, but it has to be unanimous among all of the judges.
Season seven’s winner, David Cook, is here to sing “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to open the show. He looks and sounds good, and holds my interest for about four seconds.
Back from a commercial break, the finalists are seated on the dreaded couches. This week’s Ford commercial is to “Tick Tock Boom.” Everyone is dressed in white and throwing paintballs out the car windows as they drive around. The paintballs decorate the cars and the white clothing, and I would think they would also provide an unsafe driving distraction.
Casey tells us that he wasn’t able to take part in the commercial or in the next activity, due to a bad case of the flu. Next, the finalists got to work with four designers on “custom Fiesta graphics.” It’s designs that go on the Ford cars, which they got to create, but I don’t think they actually got to put it on real cars. Yawn.
It’s time for some results. Ryan has Paige stand, and tells her that she’s in the bottom three.
Next, Lee stands, and Ryan asks him about Simon’s advice to “create the moment.” Lee says this means that he needs to do his best and not hold back. Ryan gives Lee the news that he’s safe, and Lee sits back down.
Siobhan stands, and Ryan asks Ellen about her comparison of Siobhan to Adam Lambert. Ellen says Siobhan already stands out, and “just is unique.” Ryan reveals that Siobhan is safe, no surprise.
Aaron is next, and Ryan asks Randy about his comparison of Aaron to Justin Timberlake. Randy says he was referring to a quiet moment in the song, and sings a note to demonstrate. Aaron is safe, and he sits back down.
Ryan asks Andrew and Tim.....
