American Idol: Off To A Rousing Start? Not So Much Commentary by Idolhead Ed

They're back.
American Idol has begun and so far I’m not feeling any Haley, Pia or even a Scotty
Yes, season 11 is finally here and to be honest, I wasn’t really anxious like years past.
It could be that we had the Voice and The X Factor to tide us over.
But even with that explanation I just didn’t get very jazzed about what I saw last night.

The two best singers for me were the first two and both were teenies. We didn’t see much of a diverse crowd.
Can I say I’m already ready for the Hollywood rounds? Yes I can and I just did. Here’s how I saw it.
First up was 17 year old David Leathers. He looked 12 and sounded 14. But a very good 14.
He says he beat Scotty in a sing off once. I could see him advancing pretty far if he can cap the attitude a little.
Next up was 16 year old tap dancing champ and singer Gabi Carrubba. I wasn’t expecting much but really liked her.
I don’t see her hanging around long but she’s very good and very cute. Good thing she’s not beautiful or she wouldn’t have a chance.
Now we get the obligatory short clips of those who move on starting with a passable 15 year old Brianna Faulk.
Then Neco Starr….I’m not impressed.
Next, another 15 year old, Molly Hunt. Gone first round of Hollywood I predict.
Back to the full auditions with 28 year old Elise Testone. Not a whole lot going on here. I don’t see her being around very long. I don’t really like that over bearing type voice.
Our first party crasher is 19 year old, Jessica Whitely. Oddly enough I think she might be able to sing but this round, she didn’t.
It was pretty damn bad but she says we’ll see her again in Texas. I’m betting we don’t.
Ryan Seacrest twin 26 year old Shawn Kriesman doesn’t impress, at least with his singing.
He does a mean Ryan Seacrest. But what’s that saying? Nothing. No ticket here.
Up next is an Amazonian 15 year old Shannon Magrane, all 6 foot and size 11 of her.
