At the beginning of this week’s episode of “America’s Next Top Model,” the models gather in the kitchen at the beginning of their day. Samantha prepares what is quite possibly the world’s smallest pancake before opening up about her family. She reveals that that her father is really strict which causes Elina to also open up and admit that her mother is very controlling. Elina says that because her mother controlled everything most of her life, Elina now has a hard time letting go over things she herself has taken control of. Elina reveals that she lived in the Ukraine until she was 8 and moved to the United States and because of her Russian heritage, she has a difficult time revealing her emotions.
In the bedroom, Lauren Brie shares with Marjorie that she feels she will go home this week. Marjorie calms her fears and tells her that she’s too versatile to go home. Meanwhile, in an interview Sheena states that she feels that Lauren Brie is very smart but “not an exciting girl.”
Lauren Brie, Elina, and Marjorie lay in the hot L.A. sun in their backyard and Elina’s tattoo on her stomach , “a voice for those who can’t speak,” is showcased. The topic of discussion is whether Analeigh will remain in the competition to go abroad. Lauren Brie and Elina don’t believe she will. Analeigh then joins the girls and fully clad in a hoodie and sweats, she lays in the sun next to them. While sucking on a lollipop Analeigh asks, “Does anyone here see me as competition?” Elina tells Analeigh that while she thinks she’s beautiful, she doesn’t look like a model. In her interview, Analeigh expresses her frustration over how McKey and Elina have such strong looks, how Marjorie is a natural as a model, and how Lauren Brie takes amazing photographs. She then wonders aloud, “Where’s my niche?”
The next morning, the models are driven to a location without so much as a clue to why. Their minibus pulls up to a large building and the girls sheepishly enter the dressing room of a photo studio where they discover their Tyra Mail on the coffee table. When they open the envelope, they discover a photo of Tyra in a postal worker’s uniform but no text of any kind. Just then, Tyra opens the door, enters wearing the same postal worker’s uniform in the photograph and excitedly announces, “Tyra Mail!” She then recites the clue for this challenge, “Neither rain, nor sleet, nor my achy, achy feet will keep you from your Tyra mail this week! It’s time you learn your signature style so you’ll be a fierce top model, chiiild. I’ll show you my tricks, but let’s be frank, you’ll be thankin’ Miss Tyra when you’re makin’ big bank.” Tyra exits the room and the girls read another note for them that instructs them to change out of their clothes and into the black dresses and heels provided.
Once they’ve changed, the models enter the studio and come upon Tyra herself in the midst of a shoot. She welcomes the girls and tells them that today they’ll be learning about signature poses. She explains that while supermodel Gisele Bundchen is known for her back, she herself was known for the intensity she could give with her eyes. Tyra explains to the girls that today they’ll have 20 pictures taken of themselves by photographer Mike Rosenthal while she coaches, and then they’ll be given the opportunity to see the photographs afterward. She goes on to say that once she’s given her critique, they’ll do 20 more shots to try and improve upon the first set.
