America's Next Top Model: Good Versus Evil
Recap by Jessi K.

The girls return from panel and Sheena breathes a sigh of relief that she’s in the competition for another week while Elina laments the fact that even when she shows emotion, it’s viewed as being “controlled.” As she talks about it, she begins to break down. Marjorie and Elina discuss how being European affects how they show emotion and that Americans do not understand. “Unless you’re from Europe or European, you will not understand, you just won’t. No way. No how,” says Elina. This conversation annoys the other girls. Joslyn rolls her eyes and Samantha finally decides to ask what everyone at home is thinking, “Yeah but, didn’t you guys like move here when you were eight or something? Don’t you have 11 years to like adapt to American style?” Elina takes offense to the question and replies, “Do you understand how hurtful that is?” Samantha blinks as she watches Elina cry.
From the back of the bus Sheena asks both Elina and Marjorie if they’re happy in America. This only adds more fuel to the fire and both girls agree that they’re not blaming America for how they feel but that it’s simply a fact that they’re immigrants and they had to adapt to life in U.S.A. which wasn’t always easy. Sheena tells them they’re only immigrants in their heads. “You’re only the way you feel,” she tells them.
Back at the house, the discussion continues between Elina, Marjorie, and Analeigh. Elina found Sheena’s comments in the bus earlier in the day very spiteful. When Sheena asked if Elina liked living in America, Elina feels Sheena “might as well just have said, ‘Why don’t you just go back to your country?’” Simultaneously, Samantha, McKey, and Sheena are talking in the kitchen about how Elina and Marjorie play the victim and any time either girls feel the least bit out of place, they blame it on being European. “It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re going,” remarks Sheena.
The girls then are notified of their latest Tyra mail which reads, “Work it, sell it, own it. Love, Tyra.” They are then dropped off at a small studio space and are greeted by Ron and Richard Harris, the Aswirl Twins, who are going to teach the models how to work with accessories. McKey awkwardly works a hat and is interrupted by the twins to be shown how it’s done. Sheena grabs a purple scarf, wraps it around her torso and then moves it up around her neck. “I can damn sure work a scarf,” she says to the camera. Joslyn models a purse using the handle for daytime and then tucking it under her arm for night. Marjorie wraps a skirt around her waist and fiddles with it. Richard steps in to show her how it can be simplified on the runway.
The girls then move to a different area of the studio and are greeted by a figure wearing a green spandex body suit and a magenta dress and pearls. The figure moves across the stage and due to chroma key technology, the green spandex body suit disappears and all that is seen is the dress and pearls walking about the stage. The girls marvel at the invisible model. The figure then reveals himself to be personal stylist James St. James and he informs the girls that their challenge for this week is to become invisible models as he just demonstrated for a private fashion preview for Nony Tochterman, fashion designer for Petro Zillia.
Nonny then helps the girls get dressed backstage and when they’re finished, Seventeen Editor-in-Chief Ann Shoket greets them backstage to tell the models that the winner will get a holiday fashion and accessory story in December/January issue of the magazine.
The show begins with Elina, who finds it hard to breathe underneath the body suit and panics. But she manages to pull her European self together when she hears the music on stage. McKey follows and flaunts her skirt by pulling it out from her body as far as it reaches. Marjorie steps on stage with an immediate wardrobe malfunction. The top of her dress has rolled over and she appears on camera as a walking skirt. Analeigh works the pearls of her outfit while Samantha works her jacket, taking it off and back on, much to the chagrin of the judges. Also cringe inducing is when Joslyn removes the belt from her outfit and drapes it behind her neck. Sheena shakes the ruffles of her dress so much that the judge’s faces appear as if they’re suffering from whiplash.
After the show, the models are critiqued. Joslyn is chastised for performing a “strip show” and Sheena twirled too much for the judges liking. Marjorie is told to rely on her other senses in order to help her in case of future wardrobe malfunctions. Elina is praised for her elegant movements and is declared the winner of the challenge. She chooses Marjorie and Analeigh to appear in the Seventeen holiday fashion and accessory spread with her. This upsets Samantha and backstage she says about Elina’s win, “That really pissed me off ‘cause like, she hates holidays.
She’s an atheist....
