America's Next Top Model Cycle 11: Marjorie Takes The Early Lead
Rankings by Jacob D.
As of September 4, 2008
This week's episode of America's Next Top Model was the season premiere of Cycle Eleven and the girls were put through their paces.

The 33 semi-finalists were whittled down to the 14 finalists and among them was Isis, a transgendered contestant. Right off the bat, this inspired much gossip from the girls and while some accepted Isis, others were uncomfortable.

The first task for the girls was to get to know the ANTM judges, meaning Nigel, Paulina, and the Jays, in one-on-one meet and greets. They then participated in a photo shoot where they portrayed different political issues with the motivation of getting others to register to vote.

At the judging panel, Marjorie was called first while Nikeysha and Sharaun were left as the bottom two. Though Nikeysha didn't handle the judges' criticisms well, Sharaun was eliminated when the judges felt she came across as fake this week and didn't have much substance. 13 girls remain. Who will be eliminated next time?

Marjorie
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 3

In the semi-finals episode, Mr. Jay felt right off that bat that Marjorie would photograph amazingly. As it turns out, she does. Her photo drew extreme praise from the judges and the judges have already started to fall in love with her. She got her photo first from Tyra and Tyra deemed it the best in the bunch. She moves into first place because of how highly she is already regarded by the judges, kind of like how Anya got off to a fast start last season, but she will have to find a way to deal with her extremely shaky nerves and the way she presents herself. If she can, she'll be incredibly stiff competition.
Isis
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 1

I love Isis a lot right now. She is very mature and calm, exhibiting a level-head and being able to keep her cool around people who don't really understand her. Even when Sharaun was making nasty comments towards her from behind the partition during Isis' photo shoot, Isis kept her cool and turned in a strong performance. At judging panel, the judges loved her photo and feel she has what it takes. When it came to modeling and personality, there were nothing, but raves from those who matter so Isis retains a high ranking on the scoreboard.
Joslyn
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 7

I wasn't sure how Joslyn would do. She's the oldest in the bunch and lately, the elder women in the group haven't been doing so well, with Janet from Cycle Nine as an example. When I heard that she had tried out for ANTM 30 times, I wondered if they chose her because they felt she had model potential or they finally decided it was her turn. However, Joslyn was mature and charming when interacting with the other girls and the judges, and worked it out so fierce at the photo shoot. The judges were impressed and already seem to be taking notice of Joslyn, so it's no surprise that Joslyn ranks in the upper echelons of my scoreboard for now.
Elina
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 10

I wasn't sure how Elina would fare in this competition, but in the semi-final episode, Mr. Jay was impressed with her performance in the photo shoot. She turned things up a notch in the first real photo shoot for the top 14 and drew tons of praise for her picture. The judges questioned Elina's personal presence, but Elina has the talent and drive to make it far.
Brittany
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 6

We didn't see much of Brittany in the first competition episode, but she turned in a strong photo and drew praise from the judges. Therefore, she retains a high ranking on my scoreboard for now.
Sheena
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 2

Sheena is an absolutely wonderful girl. Her personality and spirit are both beautiful. She showed that she is very open and friendly, being one of the few who immediately accepted Isis, and she didn't act like one of those, "I'm here to win, not make friends!" people. You know, the type who go on a reality show and act rude and nasty, only to later rationalize their behavior by saying they didn't come to the competition to make friends. My thinking is, why do you have to be rude and mean to get what you want? Sheena embodies that and I love her for it. She hit a bump in the road when Mr. Jay felt she was being too hoochie in her photo shoot, but the judges liked her photo and I think that between Mr. Jay pointing out that problem to her and Tyra's advice, she'll catch herself and do just fine.
McKey
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 8

McKey is a lovely woman with a beautiful soul, as we saw when she was so accepting of Isis. Her look is interesting and she has great potential, as evidenced by her incredible photo this week. However, she wasn't sure what to do in her photo shoot and the judges felt she lucked into her shot. If McKey can take Tyra's advice and show that she can model and not just, "get lucky," she'll be one to watch in this competition.
Samantha
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 13
Samantha surprised the judges with a great photo and Paulina feels she has Cheryl Tiegs/Christie Brinkley quality. However, they didn't like her personal style at judging panel and I'm not sure how in love they are with Samantha. We'll see in the coming weeks, but for now, Samantha ranks in the middle of my scoreboard.
Analeigh
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 5

Analeigh polarized the judges this week. While the general consensus was that she didn't live up to her full potential at the photo shoot, Nigel thought her photo was weak while Paulina felt it was strong. Analeigh ranks in the middle of my scoreboard for now.
Clark
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: 12

Clark, Hannah, and Lauren were the three girls that the judges complained about the most because they all felt that neither really nailed the theme of their photo shoots. Even though I think Clark is rude, narrow-minded, and the frontrunner in the contest to be this season's villain, I have ranked her higher than the other two girls I mentioned because I feel she is a stronger model than them. Besides, ANTM isn't just about personality so if Clark can turn in strong photos or show strong presence at panel and in challenges, she'll be around for a while. Eventually, the personality thing will be an issue, especially if the judges catch wind of it like, say, if the girls do go-sees, but I think Clark will be around for a few more weeks.
Hannah
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: 9

This week, Hannah turned in a dull photo that didn't quite nail the theme she was supposed to be portraying. She tried to make the excuse that she didn't know what her stance was on the issue, but the judges never except the, "I haven't done this or that before," excuse because that's the point of acting. As an actor or a model, you have to pretend and learn how to inhabit characters, even if you're not familiar with the subject. Hannah needs to work on fostering a better understanding of modeling.
Lauren Brie
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: 14

I hated the pre-season photo of Lauren posted on the CW's website and had her ranked last for that. Seeing her in this two part premiere, I think she is a nice girl. However, I'm not sold on Lauren as a model. Her look is odd and will be tough to work with, in my opinion. She also seems like one of those girls who generally fades into the background, which is death on this show. I think she'll be okay for now, but if she doesn't come back next week and give a good photo or standout in some way, she could find herself leaving sooner rather than later.
Nkeysha
Current Ranking: 13         Previous Ranking: 11

Nikeysha wasn't mean and bitchy when she was critiqued by the judges, but Tyra felt she was making excuses when they criticized her photo and didn't like that she was talking over the judges. This bought her a trip to the bottom two and leaves her in last place on this week's scoreboard. Right now, her big lesson is how to absorb critiques and improve.
Sharaun
