America's Next Top Model Cycle 11: Taking Things To The Extreme
Rankings by Jacob D.
As of October 2, 2008
This week's episode of America's Next Top Model took things to the extreme, in more ways than one.

Paulina Porizkova was on hand to give the girls their challenge for the week and that was to take extremely ill-fitting clothes and use various tools, such as clips and water bottles, to make them more flattering. McKey won and earned 50 extra frames for the next photo shoot.

At the house, a few of the girls, including the usually perky Joslyn, pondered their place in the competition. However, Marjorie's extreme case of nerves got under the skin of the other girls because she was constantly acting negative.

For the photo shoot, the girls acted as various natural disasters leveling a city.

At judging panel, Samantha was called first when Tyra was handing out the photos while Clark and Joslyn were left as the bottom two.

Though Joslyn's performance in the photo shoots had been slipping, Clark was eliminated when her overall body of work just wasn't good enough.

Here's my rankings...

Lauren Brie
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1

Lauren Brie also holds her position by default. I think she is a fantastic model and I love the way she just poses her butt off in the photo shoots. However, the judges noticed that she often does the same thing and are wanting to see more versatility. At first I didn't agree, but then I remembered Claire from last season. She too was a strong model, but she could not give the judges anything other than, "edgy, high fashion," and was deemed one-note after a while. ANTM tends to favor the high fashion girls throughout the competition, but the judges always want the winner to be someone who can connect on all fronts, whether it's couture, catalogue, commercial, or any other such job a model can book. Lauren Brie has the high fashion appeal, but let's see what else she can do.
Elina
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 2

Elina holds her position by default. The judges still want her to break out of her shell and stop being so controlled and guarded, but she turned in another strong photo and was declared safe this week.
Samantha
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 9
In last week's scoreboard, I noted that Samantha was in the bottom two because of what she did at the runway challenge, not because of her track record in the rest of the competition. Samantha has been one of the most consistently strong competitors, both in her lovable personality and her stunning photos. She really throws herself into the photo shoots, as evidenced by her being the only girl who really interacted with her set and inhabited a character this week. As such, she pulled out a great photo and she was called first by Tyra when Tyra was handing out the photos. I feel like Samantha is back on track.
Analeigh
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 8

Analeigh is really starting to turn things around. After spending a few weeks falling under the lofty expectations the judges have had for her, she has really started to step up her game in the last two episodes. I thought she was absolutely fantastic at this week's photo shoot and her photo. The fact that she's improving will also make her look favorable because the judges like to see a girl who improves over time. It's what kept such girls as Dominique from Cycle Ten, Bianca from Cycle Nine, and Natasha from Cycle Eight around so long.
Marjorie
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 4

I like Marjorie, but she needs to get over herself. She is quick to point out what's wrong with her, but then does nothing about it. How much effort have we seen Marjorie put into gaining confidence and getting better versus how much effort we've seen her put into just dwelling on the, "Poor little me, I'm from France and I know nothing about American customs, that's just who I am," act. She's been in the States since she was nine, so you'd think she'd have learned SOMETHING, even if she was home schooled. It's about time for her to quit making excuses and actually do something to shake herself out of her negative habits.

Beyond that, she had a reverse situation from McKey. She did a poor job at the photo shoot, but Tyra selected a fantastic photo from her film. I'm not ready to rant about a conspiracy, but I wonder if the judges are playing favorites and taking too much pity on Marjorie. She needs someone to shake her up and snap her out of this rather than someone who will pat her on the head and tell her everything is fine. As it is, she continues to put forth amazing pictures, but if she can't work on her confidence, she'll fall into that classic trap of the, "High Fashion Girl Who Gets Eliminated Because Of Poor Personal Presence." It's what claimed Lauren, Heather, and Brittany from the last three seasons and I can see it happening to Marjorie.
McKey
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 7

I also think McKey got a bit of a raw deal this week. She won the challenge, she impressed Mr. Jay both with her look and performance at the photo shoot, but then Tyra picks what was probably one of McKey's most boring pictures from her film. Mr. Jay sees the same pictures Tyra does and he thought McKey did an excellent job, even saying she didn't need the 50 extra frames she won from the challenge, but that's the picture Tyra chose? Of course, McKey wasn't in any real danger, but I just don't get the disconnect from Mr. Jay's comments and the photo that was chosen for her this week. She has the look and the potential, plus she won the challenge and turned in a strong performance at the photo shoot, so she moves up no matter what the judges thought.
Sheena
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 5

I think Sheena got a raw deal this week. The judges loved her photo and they liked the personality that she brings to the table, but they almost let her slip into the bottom two simply because they didn't like what she was wearing at judging panel this week. Yeah, maybe it's supposed to act as a wakeup call so she can improve her personal styling, but what would their excuse have been if Sheena had fallen into the bottom two? "You did a great job this week, but we hate your outfit. You are showing us that you don't know how to dress." Please! How would that justify anything? Sheena falls a bit in the rankings, but only because Tyra called her last before the bottom two.

I also must give credit where it is due. Whenever Sheena gets a critique, she seems to correct herself successfully. She seems to be past the, "Hoochie Phase," from the first two weeks and after Nigel pointed out that Sheena was soft in her pictures, she turned in an intense photo last week. I'm hoping now that Sheena's personal styling issues have been pointed out to her, she'll be able to correct herself because I would love to see her go far.
Joslyn
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 3

I didn't want to drop Joslyn to last place because her performance up until recently has been so strong. However, the last two weeks have seen the quality of her photos sliding noticeably. The judges wonder where that fire has gone and the, "fading performance," has been a death trap for innumerable contestants, including Isis from just last week. Joslyn's personality and performance from the first couple weeks saved her this time, but will it save her if she falls into the bottom two again?
Clark
6th Elimination
Isis
5th Elimination
Hannah
4th Elimination
Brittany
3rd Elimination
Nkeysha
2nd Elimination
Sharaun
1st Elimination
