America's Next Top Model Cycle 11: Marjorie Plays Her Quirks Into The Lead
Rankings by Jacob D.
As of October 9, 2008
|
This week's episode of America's Next Top Model saw some girls give award winning performances and others fall flat.
After some comments from the prior judging panel, Lauren Brie struggled with how to show more personality and most of the other girls professed that they found her to be boring.
Analeigh continued to struggle with how to be a stronger model and no one really felt she represents stiff competition.
The lesson for the week featured Tyra coaching the girls on how to find their signature poses. Afterwards, Tyra revealed the lesson was also a secret challenge and Marjorie won.
At the photo shoot, the girls had to pretend to be celebrities going through embarrassing moments at an awards show.
At judging panel, Marjorie was called first for a second time when Tyra was handing out the photos.
Meanwhile, Lauren Brie and Sheena were left as the bottom two.
Though Sheena's photos were a bit disappointing, Lauren was eliminated when the judges sensed a lack of personality.
Next week, the top seven will be filming a commercial and going at each other's throats.
Who will survive and who will go home?
Here's my rankings for the week...

Marjorie
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 5
Marjorie jumps back into the first place spot. Last week, I had a major problem with the way Marjorie was using her nerves or upbringing as an excuse to be wimpy, verging on pathetic. This week, she seemed to be playing up to her quirks instead of submitting to them and really cleaned up nicely. I liked her signature poses and agreed with the decision to name her the winner of the challenge. She seemed almost confident in her own, "Marjorie," way at the photo shoot and performed fantastically. She turned in another photo that the judges drooled all over and she was called first when Tyra was handing out the photos. She is the first girl to be called first more than once, she has yet to place in the bottom two, and the judges really love her. What more can be said?

Analeigh
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 4
Analeigh is doing well, but I hesitate to rave about her. I liked her performance in the photo shoot last week and the picture she came up with, but now I've slipped back into, "mildly interested." I just don't see, "model," in this girl right now, despite her best efforts. I think she's beautiful, she has a lovely personality, and maybe she could be an actress, but I am just not sold on her as a high-fashion model just yet. All I can think to say about her is that she looks nice or is nice or has good photos.
However, what I think doesn't matter, it's what the judges think. They loved her photo this week and think she is really hitting her stride. She was called second again when Tyra was handing out the photos so all Miss Analeigh needs to is continue to improve. Don't stop working!

McKey
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 6
I'm really starting to think McKey could be a dark horse in this competition. Each week, she is growing and blossoming as a model, as we see more of her potential shining through. Her look is strong, she has a lovely spirit, and she can really knock the socks off of Jay and the judges when she tries. I'm not sure what to tell her right now because she seems to be doing just fine, especially considering that she is one of only three girls left who have yet to be in the bottom two. However, I will say that she cannot just coast along. She must always be working and doing her best and not become complacent because I would like to see her stick around.

Elina
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 2
Elina had a bit of a breakthrough this week, but only a small one. She started to let go at the photo shoot and showed some real emotion, but what the judges saw in her picture was still too controlled. Tyra even said that if you edited out the fake tear, it doesn't even look like Elina is crying, which is a bad thing if you're trying to portray an, "over-emotional actress." Rome wasn't built in a day so we can't expect Elina to just jump that hurdle in the blink of an eye, but for the sake of this competition, she'll have to fake it a little better until she does reach that point.

Samantha
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 3
Samantha is a bit up-and-down right now. Two weeks ago, she almost got sent home. Last week, she was called first when Tyra was handing out the photos at judging panel. This week, she was criticized for not really nailing the character she was supposed to be portraying in the photo shoot. The judges felt her picture was nice, but not because of anything Samantha was doing, really. She'll need to find some stability or new momentum if she wants to barrel through to the final three.

Joslyn
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 8
Now that Joslyn has been given some direction and focus, she seems to be back on track. She did a stunning job at the photo shoot and the judges felt her picture this week was her best one yet. Let's see if she can take this new momentum and run with it.
|
Sheena
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 7
Am I the only one who was holding my breath, thinking, "Please don't send Sheena home?" Sheena has beauty and personality, but she hasn't exactly been stepping out as the number one girl in this competition lately. I think her problem is similar to Elina's, in a way, in that she's being too controlling. She's is so worried about looking hoochie, that she forgets to be a model. She needs to get out her head and just be, "Sheena," because her personality saved her this week and if she can bring that to her pictures and other challenges, she'll be tough to beat.

Lauren Brie
7th Elimination
