America's Next Top Model Cycle 11: Here's The Preseason Scoreboard
Rankings by Jacob D.
As of August 21, 2008
|
|
Last season on America's Next Top Model, it was the 10th season and with that, there
were a bunch of new changes. We had 14 new girls, the show moved back to New York,
and Paulina Porizkova replaced Twiggy on the judging panel when Twiggy had to pull
out of the show.
After an incredibly disappointing ninth season, the tenth season was strong and so
were its contestants. There was Fatima and Dominique, both of whom had strong, and at
times bitchy, personalities, yet each worked hard and made it far. Even the girls
who didn't go that far, such as Amis, Marvita, and Claire, made a splash.
The final two consisted of Anya, a girl from Hawaii who sounded Russian, and
Whitney, the first plus-sized contestant to make it into the finals. Anya was the
Joanie of the season. Much like Joanie from Cycle Six, she sailed through the
competition being called first at judging panel five times and never falling into
the bottom two, but lost at the last moment. That means that the fierce and
determined Whitney broke through and became the series' first ever plus-sized
winner. I know there are Anya fans who think she should've won, but whether you like
Whitney or not, I say she deserved it because she never gave up.
Now we have another group of 14 girls, all ready to fight for the prize. Who will be
the 11th winner of America's Next Top Model? I don't really know yet, but as usual,
here are my pre-season rankings based on first impressions. Tune in to the CW on
September 3rd to begin the journey and I'll see ya there.

Isis
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: n/a
Isis is notable for two reasons. One, I just think she has a really cool name. Two,
and on a more serious note, Isis is the first transgendered contestant to appear on
the show. "Transgendered" is a complicated term, but it basically boils down to
this: someone who seems like one gender on outward physical appearance, but feels
like another in all mental aspects. Being transgendered is beyond being just a guy
who wears dresses or the typical image of a butch lesbian. These are folks who feel,
with every fiber of their being, that they were born into the wrong body.
Anyways, I've ranked Isis first because there is just no way that she is going home
first. When Tyra wants to make a statement, whether it's having a refugee, an
autistic girl, or the general assortment of plus-sized contestants, those girls
never go home first. When was the last time you saw a plus-sized girl get eliminated
in week one? That's not to say Isis, or the other girls I alluded to, are without
their merits. Isis seems quirky and confident in her photo, her look has great
potential, and I'd imagine that with the trials and tribulations she's gone through
as a transgendered youth, she'll be ready to fight for what she believes in. That's
what all those girls I mentioned bring to the table, their own strength through
their own experiences, so with that and Isis' own potential, I have a feeling she'll
be one to watch. Besides, I already want to root for her.

Sheena
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: n/a
I am in love with Sheena right now! There have only been two Asian girls on the
show. There was April in Cycle Two, who made it fourth place with her determination
and fierce photos, but was stopped when the judges felt a lack of emotion from her.
Then there was Gina from Cycle Six who seemed to inhabit all of the stereotypes of
Asian women and floundered badly. I see Sheena as a happy medium of the two. Her
look is strong and confident, she seems driven and not clueless, and I imagine she's
a fun girl to be around. She just seems like someone who can be a fierce model and a
commercial girl that everyone identifies with which will work wonders for her. I am
looking for Sheena to do some damage on this show and I hope she delivers because
she already has my support! Go for it, Sheena!

Marjorie
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: n/a
I think I read somewhere that Marjorie is originally from France. I like it when
this show brings an international flavor to the proceedings. Anyways, Marjorie has
already grabbed my interest. She has sort of a girly-tomboyish look, a long slim
body, nice sense of style, and I feel she has great potential. I like everything
about her at the moment and want to see what she can do.

Sharaun
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: n/a
For some reason, I find myself really liking Sharaun, even though I could easily see
her being a diva amongst the group. Her facial expression is strong, her pose is
great, and she just seems like she's brimming with confidence. She will not be a
boring girl and she will make her presence known. That always works out well on the
show because the judges don't want boring girls who just fade into the background.
Let's see if Miss Thang can rock the photo shoots, runways, and commercials because
I am already interested in seeing what she can do.

Analeigh
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: n/a
I really like Analeigh's pre-season photo. Her body looks great, particularly those
legs, and she has a lovely face. I'm getting a mischievous vibe from her so she
could be a playful girl, though she could also seems like a girl who has no problems
telling you what's on her mind. Overall, she seems confident and I'm curious to see
what she can do.
|
Brittany
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: n/a
Brittany's photo is absolutely stunning. Her body looks great and she's showing off
some great lines and angles. Her face looks lovely and I'd imagine she can strike a
pose and give you a look. She also seems like a girl who can burn up the runway.
However, her facial expression can also read, "sleepy," or, "dreary." If she can
work well on the runway and photo shoots, she'll be one to watch out for.
|
Joslyn
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: n/a
Joslyn is the eldest woman in this season's group. I like her photo because it's
simple, but still strong. I feel a striking sense of maturity and poise from Joslyn
and I find myself responding well to her beauty, so I am definitely interested in
seeing what she can do.
|
Mckey
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: n/a
I'm getting a Melrose vibe from McKey because when I did the pre-season rankings for
Cycle Seven, I was confused about Melrose's look and wasn't sure where to rank her.
McKey doesn't look like anyone I've ever seen on this show which is actually good.
Why should she be like everyone else? However, I feel the success of her look and
potential will really fall onto what the stylists can do for her. If she can't work
it, she won't win, but I doubt she'll be gone first.
|
Hannah
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: n/a
Hannah is just all over the place in her photo. Her body is hidden by her white
shirt-dress, her legs look disproportionate to her frame, her face expression is
neither here not there, and her hair is out of place. She seems very awkward, kind
of like Clark, but I find her look to be more interesting and I think she has more
potential. If she can clean up like Heather from Cycle Nine, to whom she bears a
passing resemblance to, she'll be fine.
|
Elina
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: n/a
Is it just me or does Elina look like Angelina Jolie? She's dressed all in black
and has a tattoo on her lower abdomen, giving a pouty look and a sort of half-cocked
pose. She has a dark and mysterious sort of vibe, kind of like A.J. from Cycle
Seven, but A.J. ended up taking herself out early, so I'll wait and see how Elina
does, but I am curious.
|
Nkeysha
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: n/a
I'm definitely getting a "Furonda" vibe from Nikeysha. Her look is very harsh and
her body is very skinny, so she'll have to work extra hard to make herself appear
versatile. Furonda made it work, so if Nikeysha can follow in her footsteps, she may
yet be one to watch. Also, I must say that from her photo, I'm getting a vibe that
she seems like a fun girl to be around, another thing that Furonda brought to the
table in Cycle Six.
|
Clark
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: n/a
Clark seems very awkward in her pre-season photo. Her body is kind of smushed
together, almost like she's trying to hide and her facial expression isn't the
strongest in the world. I imagine her as the kind of girl who has trouble finding
her footing and earns some flack for that.
|
Samanth
Current Ranking: 13         Previous Ranking: n/a
Samantha is not leaving me impressed. Her pre-season photo seems to be all about
boobs and legs with her, her outfit is hoochie, her hair isn't lovely, and I don't
know what she's trying to accomplish with that facial expression. I would've ranked
her last, but she doesn't bother me as much as Lauren Brie. However, she still ranks
towards the bottom because of her bad pre-season photo and the fact that she just
seems like another non-descript blonde girl.
|
Lauren Brie
Current Ranking: 14         Previous Ranking: n/a
Yikes! Her pre-season photo is awful. For starters, she looks that most wonderful
type of girl, the bored, entitled teen, which is doing her no favors. Her pose is
just awful and the whole photo has a hoochie kind of feel to it with her arched
back, bedroom eyes, and jutted legs which is always the kiss of death on this show.
And what's with those shoes? Bleh! I'm ranking Lauren last because I just do not
like anything about her right now. However, I have a poor track record of picking
who gets eliminated first so watch Lauren sail through each week.
