America's Next Top Model 13: Nicole Hangs On To First For Fourth Straight Week

This week's episode of America's Next Top Model had a group theme, but was still an individual's game.
The girls received lessons from Benny Ninja, Lil' Mama, and dance troupe Jabbawockeez on how to show emotion without using your face.
The girls then got into groups of three and choreographed their own performances, having to show happiness, anger, and sadness while wearing masks.
The group of Jennifer, Kara, and Rae ended up winning the challenge.
At a Cirque du Soleil themed photo shoot, the girls once again shot in groups of three.
At judging panel, the girls were judged in groups and Brittany, Jennifer, and Rae were each called first for having the best group shot.
Ashley and Kara were left as the bottom two and though Kara was continuing to rest on being pretty, Ashley was cut when she became lost and started fading away in the photo shoots.
Eight girls remain; who will be eliminated next time?

Nicole

Nicole is an 18 year old student from Louisville, CO. She is 5' 7".
Nicole delivered another great photo this week, but she also received her worst critiques. The judges feel she needs to be more versatile, show more personality, and Tyra said her film in the photo shoot was weak, dragging her group down. She was still called pretty quickly once the Brittany/Jennifer/Rae team was taken care of because she is a favorite of the judges and they seem to have faith in her. For that, and her phenomenal track record prior to this, she holds first place for a fourth week, but just barely. If she can't do more to come out of her shell, even just a little bit, she could ultimately lose in the end despite her stellar portfolio. Please practice and reach your fullest potential, Nicole!

Laura

Laura is a 19 year old waitress from Stanford, KY. She is 5' 6".
At this point, I feel like Laura is the most well-rounded girl in the competition. Though she hasn't been a force in the challenges and has yet to be called first when Tyra is handing out the photos at judging panel, she also has yet to deliver a really bad photo or be placed in the bottom two. She has made the judges take notice on nearly all fronts from photos to personality to style and in mostly good ways. This week, she was deemed the star of her group's shoot and had the judges amazed with her pose and versatility, causing them to fall even more in love with her. While I'm not sure if Laura is an official frontrunner just yet, she is powering along strongly and could be one to watch. Like I said, she seems to be the most well-rounded model right now and it's the well-rounded ones that win each season.

Rae

Rae is a 21 year old mother and homemaker from Rochester, MN. She is 5' 6".
My Rae is slowly getting back into the mix of things. After a close call in episode three and four, she has now delivered two absolutely stunning pictures in back-to-back weeks. Tyra called and the judges felt she was the star of her group's shoot and, through a technicality, she became one of the first girls along with Brittany to be called first more than once at judging panel. I'm so glad because I think she has taken some of the best picture so far and I finally started to see some edginess in her photo this week. What will hurt her though is lack of personality, which I've been saying for weeks now and the judges touched on just this week. Rae, stop being the Invisible Girl!

Erin

Erin is an 18 year old student from Kenosha, WI. She is 5' 6".
Erin continues to deliver good photos, even if she wasn't the star in her group shot. What's starting to hurt her chances is her lack of personality. The judges don't find her particularly likeable or inspiring from a personal standpoint despite her strong pictures and modelesque look. Personal Presence has been a deal-breaker for many girls on ANTM, whether it catches up to them early or later on in the competition. I mean, just look at how Erin nearly fell into the bottom two this week. I feel she can coast for a couple more weeks with strong photos, but she'll need to be more well-rounded if she wants any chance of winning.

Brittany

Brittany is a 21 year old student from Livermore, CA. She is 5' 5".
Brittany seems to be becoming a judges' favorite. She has pulled three great photos in five weeks, according to them, and though she wasn't the star of any team she was on this week, she still earned praise for showing a different side of herself with her part in the group shot. As a whole, her group was called first, making her one of the first girls to be called first more than once at judging panel, even if by a technicality. Though I still can't say I'm enthralled by anything Brittany has done, taking her immunity win and high praise from last week plus her being called first this week, I'm moving her up further on the scoreboard.

Sundai

Sundai is an 18 year old student from Bakersfield, CA. She is 5' 3".
Sundai holds her ranking by default this week. She had a good week, doing well in the challenge and continuing to improve at the photo shoots. At judging panel, Tyra was quick to praise her film, even though she had to pick a shot that was not one of her best in order to work around teammate Nicole. In fact, Tyra even went so far as to defend her to the other judges in deliberations, saying her films was week was some of the best of the whole competition. The judges are also starting to notice her personality, even though she's not quite commanding the room just yet.
So after all this, why not move her up? Because other girls are making a bigger splash or have had consistently stronger performances. Sundai needs another good week or two before she can move into the upper echelons, but I have a feeling she's getting there.

Jennifer

Jennifer is a 23 year old model from Philadelphida, PA. She is 5' 5".
Despite being called first at judging panel, Jennifer takes another dive in the rankings. Jennifer was part of the winning team at the challenge, but her performance in the photo shoot was anything but winning. She was all over the place, couldn't give great facial expressions, and just kind of shrunk away. She got poor marks from the judges and Tyra said she was the one that dragged her group down. When her group was called first, Tyra made it clear that she was saved by her teammates. I honestly feel that if Tyra were calling individuals and not groups, Jennifer would've been in or close to the bottom two. For her terrible performance this week, she must be knocked a couple pegs.

Kara

Kara is a 19 year old student from Fort Wayne, IN. She is 5' 7".
Kara, a girl I had such high hopes for pre-season, even going so far as to rank her first on my inaugural scoreboard, just keeps sinking and sinking and sinking. It's not that she's terrible or awkward; it's that she's not bringing anything fresh or exciting to the table. She has an undeniably strong look and lots of model potential, but where's that inner fire? Where's that passion? Where's that 'x factor' that's going to make people sit up and take notice? As it is, it seems like all Kara does is show and stand around in photo shoots and that was never more evident than in this photo shoot when she was literally just standing off to the side in her group shot. She wasn't the best, she wasn't the worst, but she also didn't really leave any kind of impression and sometimes that's the worst thing you can do in these competitions.
