Age Of Love: She Who Laughs Last Gets Dessert
Episode 3 Recap by Donna Emery
July 4, 2007
Adelaide spurred further jealousy by saying that she hadn't felt nervous when she was alone with Mark; that they'd just talked and felt comfortable.
Amanda was ready to fight for Mark, but Adelaide said that she knew she'd be the winner, and that Amanda was just jealous. Mary seemed to support Amanda, and was sure that Mark wouldn't choose an older woman.
As the older women approached the site of their date, they were confident. Maria said that she was glad the younger girls had chosen to send them to a pool. She supposed that the girls might have thought that older women wouldn't have good bodies, but she knew they were fabulous.
Mark noted that the ladies had approached the date with joy. He said that their attitude made him happy and relaxed. He laughed when he saw their flowered bathing caps.
In the pool, Mark told the women that the younger team had wanted them to "spend time with people who are closer to their age." So, they'd decided that the women would participate in a senior citizens' water aerobics class.
The ladies were up to the challenge. Jayanna said they were going to have fun with it. She led them in a Conga line, and Mark joined in. Mark noted that they have good bodies, and look incredible. They went on to play "chicken" in the water, and had a really great time. They were glad to include Mark in their fun, and ended the date in a big group hug with him. In the end, they thanked the younger girls for the great date.
To ride home with him, Mark chose Maria. As he got into the car, he leaned quickly over and grabbed her in a hug. She squealed with delight. He said he knew that he liked her.
Mark remarked that they had looked like "hot babes in the water."
Maria asked him what sort of woman he is attracted to. He said he enjoyed a relationship where both people make each other happy. He has a really nice body, and a very large tattoo on one shoulder. Maria watched his body language closely, and noted that he was sitting with his arms crossed and he was staring straight ahead, without making eye contact. At the end of the ride, he kissed her on the cheek.
Maria remarked that she thought there was "no connection" between them, and that she didn't like wasting time dating someone without a connection.
It was almost time for elimination, and no one enjoyed those. Kelli wondered if he liked her "just as a friend." Maria was sure that was the case for Mark and her. "You know when someone's into you, and this just doesn't do it for me. I think I have to go home this week."
When she told this to the other ladies, none was too sad. Jayanna danced with joy; she figured that meant less competition. Jen pondered: "what is in his head? What does he feel?"
Mary was again wondering if she'd stay or go home. Adelaide wasn't worried at all. She said she hadn't even packed her things. She was arrogantly confident that Mark liked her. Amanda said she was so nervous that her stomach was doing flips. Megan wondered if she is too young for Mark.
When the ladies gathered at the pool, Mark began as usual by telling them that they are beautiful. He said he wasn't going to base his choice on age, but on what he feels. He said he doesn't want to send anyone home. But, of course, he has to.
He asked Tessa to come forward first. He told her that he'd enjoyed watching her play with the kids, and that he liked that side of her. He asked her to stay.
Next, he talked to Amanda. He said that their alone time had meant so much, especially the kiss. He told her "even though it was just a little kiss, I really enjoyed it and I look forward to kissing you more." She'll be staying to enjoy more kisses.
Mark told Megan that she's someone who he looks forward to knowing better. He asked her to stay, so he could get to know her.
Next came confident Adelaide. The look in Mary's eyes as she waited spelled doom; she figured that his favorite Adelaide was sure to stay. Their talk began well. He told her that they'd gotten to know each other, and that she'd been great with the kids. He said it was good to see her come out of her shell. He went on to say that for him, a kiss says a lot.
And then he surprised everyone by telling her that during their kiss, Adelaide hadn't given him anything. He said that this told him that a relationship wouldn't work out between them.
Adelaide was stunned, but recovered quickly. She remarked that it's true that if the kiss is bad, there's nothing there. She said she was very sad, because she hadn't been honest with herself about the lack of connection between them. She left to go home.
Mary looked shocked but happy. Mark told her that her dress brings out her eyes. He told her that they hadn't had a chance to spend much time together, but that he wanted to change that. He asked her to stay.
She was elated. She said that she'd been 100% sure that she was going home. She was excited to stay.
Mark breathed a sigh of relief, since the fate of the younger ladies had been decided. He said that sending Adelaide home had been tough, but things were about to get tougher.
He spoke to Jen first. He told her that she doesn't look her age. He said she is confident and beautiful. She replied that she is beginning to have feelings for him. He said he is glad about this, and asked her to stay. As she left to join the winners' circle, she exulted: "game on! Watch out, younger gals!"
Next came Maria, who had vowed to tell Mark that she was determined to go home. As she went toward him, she noted that "I'm not feeling it. I've had enough." Mark said he'd had fun with her. He remembered that they'd had a good conversation, and that he was looking forward to spending more time with her.
She hesitated, and then started: "I just…..I am feeling that I can't stay. You are hard to read, and I didn't see enough of you to feel a connection."
Mark was surprised, but admitted that he is tough to read. He said that she'd given him a wake up call. She apparently then took pity on him, and told him that if he could show her more of himself, she might stay. He told her that she had to follow her heart, but he'd like her to stay. She hesitated again, but finally agreed to stay.
Jayanna was stunned. Maria had promised to go home! Maria agreed that she is crazy, and smiled as she joined the winners.
Jayanna got her turn next. Mark told her that she gets funnier as time goes on. Jayanna asked her if he felt a connection to any of the ladies. He said that he absolutely does, and that she is one of them. He asked her to stay.
It was down to Kelli and Lynn. He asked to speak to Kelli. He told her that they'd gone back and forth during their conversation, and that she deserved 110 percent of his focus. He said he'd like to keep her around, and asked her to stay.
So, Lynn already knew when she went up to him that she was being eliminated. He told Lynn that they hadn't spent much time together. He said he knew she was shy, and that maybe she wasn't comfortable in the setting. He said she hadn't shown him who she is, and he said it wouldn't work out between them.
Lynn was sad that she had to leave so soon. She said she would have like to have spent some 1 to 1 time with him. She said that her grandmother always tells her that she's praying that she'll live long enough to see her get married, and that she hopes that grandma will get her wish!
In the end, Host Mark told the ladies that the rivalry was "about to get closer to home." He said that all the contestants would be living together. He revealed that the younger women would have fifteen minutes to move their belongings into the 40-somethings' living space.
Jayanna was determined that it was their house, so the younger girls would respect it. "It's our way or the highway!".
Next week, as all eight women learn to live together, the preview promises us conflicts and kisses aplenty. In other words, a more typical reality-dating show. It should be a real circus.
