Age Of Love: Was That a Kiss or a Kiss-Kiss?
Episode 4 Recap by Donna Emery
July 11, 2007
This week on Age of Love, the ladies stepped up their game and made a concerted try to win Mark's heart.
And I finally saw some true passion and emotion from Mark - but of course, that was on the tennis court.
After Markie Poo sent home Adelaide and Lynn, Host Mark told the survivors that they were about to be one big happy family of roomies. None of them were too excited. The older ladies decided that the suite would be prepared "their way." Mary said she didn't trust the older ladies, and she wasn't happy about moving in with them. As the episode progressed, Mary seemed to have lots of "not-happy" moments. Tessa pouted about living with "them."
Jayanna told Jen they were going to make a Welcome Tree for the younger ladies, but when the 20-somethings arrived, they found only silence and a cold reception. Jayanna joked that she hoped she wouldn't have to spank any of the younger gals. When they arrived, the older gals were amused at some of the things the younger ones had brought, such as hula hoops.
Mary got upset, and said the older ladies were laughing at them, and she wanted to cry. So she did. She does that a lot.
Mark said that last week's elimination had given him a big wake-up call, in the words of Maria. She'd let him know that he hadn't really shown his true self to most of the ladies. He said that in the course of the show he'd matured, and was ready to open up. He said that all the ladies were sexy and had great personalities.
Mark called the suite and told the girls to wear their workout clothes and meet him at the beach. Jen said she wasn't concerned because she was the oldest gal; she was ready to give the rest of the gang a big surprise. When the ladies arrived, they found out they were to compete in a Triathlon. They were to ride tandem bikes, run on the beach and then paddle a surf board out to the yacht where Mark waited. On the bikes, they were to pair up with someone from their team. The first three girls to arrive would get to stay on the yacht and have dinner with Mark. The other five would have to go back to the suite without that special time.
Amanda was worried, since she said she is the "least athletic." But she paired up with Tessa, who was determined to win. Kelli was equally determined. She said "I'm fit, skinny and strong." She certainly seemed to be.
Mary and Megan couldn't figure out how to work the bike, so they decided they'd have to run the entire length of the course. Maria encouraged her partner to push toward the goal, because they saw that Tessa and Amanda were far ahead of the rest.
But the leaders soon faced a roadblock when Tessa's frantic efforts earned her a sprained ankle. She valiantly encouraged her partner Amanda to go ahead without her. As if she wouldn't have.
In the yacht, Mark was speculating about who would reach him first. He said he thought Kelli had a good chance, since "she runs six miles a day." He was wishing that Amanda would be one of the lucky winners, and said he hoped Jen would also make it, "because there's something there."
Jayanna was in second as they raced on the beach, and noted that Tessa's ankle made her limp. She gloated and said she didn't care. She was intent only on overtaking Amanda.
Jen was sad because the race led to leg cramps for her. Maria's legs were buckling and she said she felt "dead." Kelli ran, toward the end of the beach race, in order to keep herself in the running for the lead.
Mark was a bit embarrassed by the ladies' fervor. "Don't run," he told them. "I'm not worth it."
Tessa was finally grounded by the pain and discomfort of her ankle, and had to be treated by an ambulance worker. She was clearly upset with herself. "I wanted to make it. I thought I could, and I'm upset that I didn't."
Jayanna moved into second place and spotted first-place Amanda walking. "Big mistake," she predicted. Kelli hoped that being in third place would be good enough to get her there in time for the prize. Maria settled for fourth place, since she figured Kelli would set the pace high and she might be able to tag along. Megan was ready to quit:
"I'm so exhausted!" she protested.
Jayanna reached the yacht first.....
