Age Of Love: Sailing Off Into the Sunset
Finale Recap by Donna Emery
August 8, 2007
This week on Age of Love, Mark made his choice from the remaining two ladies. Time will tell whether the couple can develop a deeper commitment from their reality show beginning.
Mark began the show by knowing that he would soon have to look into one of the ladies' eyes and tell them that it wasn't going to work out. He knew that this would hurt and he didn't want to hurt anyone. Yet, he also knew that he had to pick just one lady.
The choices were down to 25-year old Amanda, whose main skills seem to be kissing, and whining about Mark's activities with the other women - and Jen, a 48-year old who has proved to be lovely, charming and as attractive to Mark as any of the other ladies.
Mark had decided that he wanted his family to help him make the decision between the two ladies, so he brought them with him to Australia. As the two ladies got closer to that meeting, Mark thought about both of them. He said that he'd felt chemistry with Amanda from the beginning. He said her eyes and smile were wonderful, and that she was the first woman from the show that he'd kissed. He called her passionate, and felt that she has real feelings, and is genuine.
With Jen, Mark had felt "something there, from the start." He'd been surprised by her age, and by her revelation that she has a 25-year old son. He noted that though she is 18 years older than him, "her body is ridiculous." He knew she had changed his mind about dating older women. "She doesn't play games. She knows what she wants."
Mark couldn't imagine a more wonderful place to bring the ladies. He clearly loves his home in Australia. He also said that he'd know his mom's opinion of the ladies, since "you always know where my mom stands."
As the ladies approached Mark's family's home, Jen revealed that she'd brought a gift for Mark's mother. Amanda hadn't thought to do that, and was upset.
During the time that the ladies spent at Mark's home, his family and friends were surprised by Jen's age. Mark's friend was shocked that she is 48, and that she has an adult son. Yet everyone seemed to accept Jen, and Mark's sister reminded everyone "you can't judge a book by its cover." During the visit, Jen easily made small talk while Amanda scrambled for something to say. Jen made sure to tell Mark's mom that she'd done a great job raising him, while Amanda thought that Mark's mom already knew that. Jen was able to help in the kitchen, while Amanda didn't really know what to do. When Mark's mom asked her if she wanted to learn to cook, she quickly said yes.
After the visit, Jen said that she could see herself as part of Mark's family. When Mark asked his family what they thought, Mom said that she liked Amanda, since she is "shy, like me." Young Deklen, a nephew, also liked Amanda better. Mark's sister preferred Jen, since she is talkative, like her but thought Amanda might be a better choice since "Mom wants grandchildren." Mom quickly chided Mark that he's not yet ready for marriage.
When Mark talked to the ladies in the limo, he revealed that Jen would have the first one-on-one date with him. Amanda was sad again. She was upset because Jen had already had two one-on-one dates, while she hadn't yet had one. She pouted prettily and prepared to wait for her turn. As she waited, she said that thinking of Mark and Jen together is unnerving. "It's not easy," she sighed.
As Jen got ready for her date she said she was nervous, and that her feelings for Mark had grown stronger. Mark greeted her with a flower. He said his own feelings have grown toward Jen. "A few weeks ago, Amanda would have been my top choice, but Jen has opened my heart."
Mark and Jen relaxed in a gondola, and she told Mark that he makes her feel special. Who knew that they have gondolas in Melbourne? I guess Mark did. As they relaxed and snuggled, Jen whispered a racy secret in Mark's ears, and it surprised him. She hinted to us that she was revealing something about her past intimacies. He remarked: "Jen is confident; she knows who she is." Jen countered by saying that Mark was spoiling her.
They had dinner in an aquarium. Above them and around them was a wall full of all sorts of sea creatures. It was amazingly lovely. Mark told Jen that he can be himself when he's with her. He said he laughs a lot with her. Jen said that he's given her hope for love. She noted that she could fall in love with him easily; "it wouldn't be that difficult."
After dinner, they snuggled under blankets and appeared to be very cozy. He remarked on her "ease, her karma." When she whispered that she didn't want it to be over, he told her that it's not.
The next date was with Amanda.....
