The Bachelor: ABC Combines The Bachelor And Big Brother For Bachelor Pad Spinoff

For a long time I have wanted a different network to do another version of Big Brother. ABC is doing just that.
This morning ABC announced it will spinoff The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises and create Bachelor Pad.
It will feature the cast members from 14 editions of The Bachelor and five editions of The Bachelorett living in a Big Brother style house where they will be filmed 24 hours a day.
The show will feature competitions and a weekly elimination and there will be a grand prize winner. Sound a little like Big Brother? I'm hoping the people at Real Player are in talks to gives us a 24 hour web feed like they do with Big Brother.
Bachelor Pad will be produced by Bachelor producer Mike Fleiss along with Martin Hilton. Hilton said the show is inspired by the real-life relationships that have continued among the Bachelor casts. "All these people have been friends, been enemies, they date each other and bring all this great backstory to the show," Hilton said. "It seemed like there was an opportunity to combine that world with a new competitive reality show."
In what looks like a "test the water" move, ABC has ordered seven episodes, with "Bachelor" host Chris Harrison hosting the new show.
Although ABC has not announced when it will appear, The Hollywood Reporter is saying "expect ABC to premiere the show in the late summer coming out of the "Bachelorette" finale. It's not clear whether the show will air opposite CBS' venerable "Big Brother".
The cast has not yet been announced.
