The Bachelor: Jason Says ABC Made Me Do It!
March 3, 2009
Jason Mesnick blames ABC for his public breakup with fiancé Melissa Rycroft on the After the Final Rose show.
The single dad has been criticized for dumping Melissa on the show and revealing that he is in love with Bachelor runner up Molly Malaney. Jason now claims his contract with ABC forced him to split with Melissa on TV. “That was part of the deal. I signed up for it in my contract. Your relationship is – good and bad – in front of everybody. If I could have, I would have seen Melissa the night before. It killed me. It kills me now,” Jason says.
Jason, 32, proposed to Melissa, 25, on the season finale of The Bachelor. On After the Final Rose, Jason claimed his feeling began to change after he and Melissa were off the show and back in the real world.
“After we got back into the real world, all of a sudden, we had less to talk about and I didn’t know why. I started thinking wow, what’s happening? Why aren’t we communicating the way we did when the show was going on?” he explains. “I didn’t say something right away because I wanted to figure out what was going in inside of me,” he says. “There was part of me that wanted things to work out with Melissa so bad. But the whole other piece was I had these crazy feelings for Molly.”
While Jason says he couldn’t deny his feelings for Molly, he admits he is “not proud of what I had to do” to Melissa.
