Big Brother Hamster History: Its Back To The Basics In The House
Looking Back On Season 10
|
Big Brother 10 was the tenth season of the American reality television series Big Brother that premiered July 13, 2008 on the CBS television network. The show aired three times a week; Sundays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), and Thursdays at 8 p.m (live ET/delayed PT). Julie Chen returned as host, and Allison Grodner, Rich Meehan and Scott Einziger were the executive producers. The show was produced by Endemol USA and Allison Grodner Productions. The finale was Tuesday, September 16, 2008.
Only one season of Big Brother was intended to air during 2008, but due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, CBS announced Big Brother 9 for the regular television season and Big Brother 10 for the summer of 2008.
Big Brother 10 has been noted as a "back to basics" season by both CBS and the production team. As part of the back to basics format live audiences returned for the live eviction shows and the HouseGuests are complete strangers.
Big Brother 10 lasted 71 days, nearly a week and a half shorter than most seasons, making this the shortest season of the American series of Big Brother.
Pre-season
Casting for Big Brother 10 began on February 25, 2008. Applications were due on April 25, 2008 and video tape submissions were due on April 4, 2008. During May 2008 interviews for the 40 semi-finalists were held with the finalists being chosen on May 21, 2008. Casting calls were held in various cities across the country including Los Angeles, CA, Charleston, SC, Louisville, KY, Minneapolis, MN, Pittsburgh, PA and Phoenix, AZ.
Big Brother 8 winner Dick Donato announced on House Calls that Big Brother 10 will feature a wider range of HouseGuests. E4 will not air Big Brother 10 as they did with Big Brother 9 due to conflicts with the ninth edition of the British version.
A live audience is present during the live eviction episodes on Wednesdays. Beginning July 31, the live eviction episodes moved to Thursdays. This is the first time since Big Brother 1 that an audience will be present for the live weekly eviction shows.
HouseGuests
CBS advertisements revealed that 13 HouseGuests would be entering the House, the same number as Big Brother 4, the first time the number of HouseGuests has decreased.
