Big Brother: Severing the Keeshia - Donato Connection
Compassionately Written, Smart-Ass-Big- Brother- Commentary by C. Rutolo Dietrich
July 16, 2008
Severing the Keeshia/ Donato connection is easy enough to do. However there isn't one. Don't feel bad, I was fooled too. For a moment, when I heard the suggestion, I thought, what! Well, maybe? Those eyes, that hair. That voice!.

Showtime After Dark started with a Bang. It definitely seemed planned, just not sure by whom. But I could almost hear the producers in the background, rubbing their little hands together as they shouted out the command for the Big Brother cast to run hog wild through the yard and back into the kitchen. They were hooting and a hollering. I thought, what the funk? Were they drunk? They were not.

One minute latter they all stopped moving. I guess they gave it all that they had. It was like someone reached down, perhaps some Big Brother Hand, and simply turned them all off. Welcome to Big Brother 10. Has a nice even ring to it. Doesn't it? But, well, we'll see. The second night opens loudly too. Only this time it is because they've had a little booze.

Grandpa Jerry's got his drink on. And New Orlean's Renny's been 'running gay' around the yard again with her new gay friend, Steven. I think she knows that he's humoring her. When she's done she shouts, "When I come home I don't want any tomatoes, or lawsuits. You hear?" Someone says, "There will be whole segments devoted to that sentence alone." Seems she's prone to such statements.

I'll tell you what's really disconcerting, Daniele Donato's voice keeps coming out of Keesha's head. Daniele hardly spoke, especially at first. And she took great care not to swear, especially on air. Not that Keesha's a total potty mouth. Just an observation. They both are Hooter girls. But, there other similarities. Keeshia even shares some of Daniele's delicate mannerisms. She sits like her; knees up at the counter with her blue jeans on. The cameras love her. That's for sure.

As for me, I had low expectations coming into this show. In fact this time I thought it best to simply have none at all. I always forget how exhausting it can be, to delve into a whole other world. It's only day two and the feuding's begun. It's a war of words and drama. No one's being intentionally cruel, or vulgar beyond words. It's about promises made, and then forgotten between virtual strangers. It's mostly little things, kept alive and breathing by people like Libra. Her cohorts, Michelle and April keep the fire burning. Michelle feeds the flames and April jumps right in. There are a lot of strong women this time around. A power ball twirls between them, and around and around in this house.

Libra's in charge of the whispering brigade. They were whispering at me all day. With the sound turned down they started to sound just like bees. Or a nest of vipers..slithering up a tree. Yes, the live feeds are alive with the busy buzzing of bees. I was almost grateful everytime I lost my connection. It gave me a break from the ringing in my ears. Buzz..Buzz...Buzz. Snap. Crackle. Pop. Words. Fear & Alliances are building and brewing. Then, they stop, while enemies are being constructed, or more likely deconstructed. They need losers. Because they all want to win. So, they need a villain. Someone's got to be 'It."

This season's first victim seems to be Brian Hart. I've watched this dynamic happen here, again and again. I've no doubt at all that it's happening again. They know someone's going to get voted out. So they start looking for something. ANYTHING at all can brew into the biggest brawl.

There are ninety five microphones capturing this buzz.. Hushed, and hurried, and excited and flurried, they feed on each other's energies, paranoia, and fear. If you're reading this, you've probably been listening to the whispering as well, And it all starts wtih this: just a whisp.. whisp. whisp of a whispering thing.

They were actually having fun for a short while as I write. They wer playing charades on Showtime last night. They were being silly. I wish they'd do more of that. Because some of them are bonding as friends. But most of them are, or will be conspiring again. They're constantly building armies and boundaries. Then they knock them all down. Spin each other around. Their loyalties turn on a dime. They devour as they try to scramble to the top of the hill. It's "Survivor," if you will, inside a nice big house with a backyard mini pool, and artificial lights that stay lit all of the time.

They also forget.....
