Big Brother: The Veto Is Veto'd
Spoiler Free Commentary by Mike Shields
August 20, 2008
When last we left our intrepid heroes, Jerry and April were nominated
for eviction, which can only mean one thing; Jerry started talking to
himself. And, the veto competition was to be held. Ok, I guess that's
two things. Of course, it is another reason to evict Jerry, the annoying
one. He was wondering what he should talk to himself about, and he ruled
out God, because there wasn't a church.
Stop me if you've heard this,
but didn't they form a Bible study last season? And what's wrong with
going to Dan, the Catholic school teacher? Oh wait. He believes Dan to
be Judas. I don't know about you, but I don't equate voting a different
way with Jesus being betrayed. Especially since Dan's vote wasn't even
his last week. I thought Jerry was really smarter than that, as the
promise was made by Dan in a way as to be unbelievable.
Last time, I talked about how the worst case scenario would be for Ollie
to win the veto, and take April off the block. When they chose players
for the veto competition, Dan's name was chosen first, followed by
Keesha's. I almost breathed a sigh of relief, until Jerry pulled
Ollie's' name. At that point, he had a one in three chance. I've played
longer odds at the poker table. Ollie goes to April, and states, “I hope
it's a physical challenge, and then I'll take you off the block.”
No such luck, as the veto competition was a variation on the Stay or
Fold game that has been played in previous seasons. I don't know why
they chose a horror theme this time around, however, the Halloween
Illusions Costume shops are currently opening up around town, so, I
guess it makes some sense, with Halloween only being a little over two
months away.
Michelle hosts the game, and asks the contestants various
questions about the number of various things that have been placed in
the yard. The length of a python, the number of cockroaches, pins in
voodoo dolls, and the like.
Jerry pulled out to a swift two point lead, while eliminating Renny and April. At this point, Dan kicked it into high gear, while Ollie played it safe. This would prove to be his undoing. Dan made a correct guess, eliminating Keesha, and gaining a point. It was the next question that showed a startling discovery: Dan is an excellent reader of people, and I'd hate to ever come across him at the aforementioned poker table.
