Big Brother: America's Liar Gets a Little Play Commentary by Cindy Rutolo Dietrich August 30, 2007
I'm hoping these confessions will finally open little Jessica's eyes. I
can't imagine how they prove anything else, except how much, and how
often Eric has lied.
Before his confession, he made every attempt to extract every last
detail from Jess about what Amber had said. He especially wanted to know
why Jessica had wanted Amber to stay "all of the sudden."
"Because I like her, "Jessica said.
But Eric persists. He's good at this. He also gets allot of money for
Amber's eviction.
Eric continually spins. Most of this spin seems to have nothing to do
with love, or trust or truth. Basically he keeps trying to explain
everything, his way. It feels more like overt manipulation. I think he
just wants to win.
By the time that he's done, he makes it sound like Jessica shouldn't
even trust her own feelings, gut instincts, thoughts, or recollections.
I think that's what I resented, about it most of all.
Still, he had to work much harder than usual on her. Jessica seemed
frustrated, and even angry at times. "This is starting to eat at me.
This might be like the biggest mistake. - ever! :" Jessica said,
fretting during Tuesday evening's BB show.
Jessica had started to feel suspicious when Eric wouldn't use the veto
to get one of the Donatos out while they had the power. She said,
"There's definitely a possibility that Eric has a secret agenda. And I
wouldn't put it past him."
Latter she added: "If he really cared, and he wanted to do exactly what
I thought he would have used the power of veto." I can't wait to hear her what she has to say in the DR now that she's
made a confession.
I think that's why he made this confession now. Because Jessica was
getting suspicious anyhow. I think he was trying to blunt some of the
blow. I still think she's going to be reeling when she finally finds out
everything.
After Eric's confession, Jessica realizes that the plane with the banner
claiming that "Eric is a Liar" is actually true. Eric says it wasn't
totally true. But Jessica says it is. "You are a liar."
Eric starts to look really nervous about his confession. I'm not sure
why he thought this would win him brownie points. Jessica does not like
liars.
Eric tries to explain why he lied. He implies it's all game. I think
that his explanation is lame.
"I lied in general, not to you, I lied in the beginning of this game."
Jessica corrects him. "You lied to me."
He amends his statement. "And I lied to you, as a result of my lying in
general. And that was wrong. I wish I didn't do it. But I did. I
wouldn't do it in any other environment outside of here."
"And I have anguished over this for the longest time. I needed to tell
you. I wanted to tell you.
I knew it wouldn't be easy. And I never meant it towards you in anyway.
"I'm sorry that it even involved you at all. And the fact that, I don't
know. I think you know." Eric trails off momentarily. "I'm at a loss for
words. "
"YOU ARE?" Jessica says.
Of course Eric keeps talking. He says he didn't mean to hurt her. "I'm
sorry that with these circumstances it did affect you."
Eric adds: "But I hate that it reminds you of some other shitty, fucking
thing that you've had in the past."
"That is weird." Jessica comments.
"Because it was like the same thing.
He was also big talker too, by the way."
