Big Brother: A Conversation With EvelDick -"Words have No Power!" Commentary by Cindy Rutolo Dietrich October 30, 2007
I think one always kind of wonders, when one's writing, who'll be
reading what you have to say. I wondered if any of the Big Brother 8 House Guests would see, and read me. But I especially wondered what EvelDick would think, and say.
EvelDick himself provided this opportunity the other day.
Many of my early articles were Pro-EvelDick. Many others were not kind
at all. Then my editor forwarded a comment from EvelDick to me about my
"Fox Reality Really Awards Show" article: "Bonaduci, Fights, Forgiveness & Fairplay."
EvelDick said that he enjoyed the article. He loved that I both
hated, and loved him. He left his email address, so I could write him.
I was shocked. I was excited. I was stunned. I was elated. At first I
couldn't imagine why he'd even like that piece. Then, I remembered. It
offers something we all need at times. It offers forgiveness.
Forgiveness for me, for being so angry at him. And, for him, for being
such a bully. It also completes a cycle; From Pro ED to Anti-ED, to Forgiveness.
It happened at the very end of the Reality Really Awards Show. I
suddenly realized, what a relief it would be to just forgive EvelDick.
Then, I could rejoice in his joy at winning his awards. I also realized
that part of the reason I felt this way, was because I could no longer
hear what he had to say about others any more.
Now EvelDick wanted to set me straight on a few things he felt I had
wrong. I really wanted to hear what EvelDick had to say. So I sent an
interview letter to him. He responded fully, and quickly. Then, he
responded again, to a follow up letter. I made sure I had his permission
to use our letters, as interviews. He also further elaborates. I felt
it was important enough to use everything.
During the course of this all, he's been very gracious to me.
For those who might criticize my soft approach with, and forgiveness for
EvelDick I say this: What good would it have done to once again
criticize what he did, or said? It's done. I am still able to ask quite difficult questions, without being confrontational.
The forgiveness I extend is not because EvelDick asks for, nor thinks he
needs it. It is given purely because it frees me.
You can't change others. But you can strive for understanding. Lovingly
seeking, I am answered. By focusing on the best things about him, I'm
able to get the best out of him. It may not be what people want to hear.
But this is the truth as he sees it. EvelDick answers everything,
truthfully. He answers completely. He also answers in a vibrant shade of
red.
I start laughing right off the bat, when I see that red ink. It's just
such an EvelDick kinda' thing.
Of course EvelDick is still EvelDick.
He doesn't hold out. He doesn't hold back. He thinks what he thinks.
And, that's it.
He makes no apologies. He hasn't second guessed. He has no regrets. It
must be nice to feel that way. Very freeing.
We still disagree on the power of words. I think some things shouldn't
be said. He reminds me about sticks and stones. I say they may break
bones, but words stick in your head.
And of course, he still hates Jen. He's like a dog with a bone. I don't
think he'll ever let that one go.
To quote a favorite EvelDick-ism, "It is what it is." So, here we go, down the rabbit hole with EvelDick.
CRD: Hi EvelDick, ED, Dick. Which do you prefer? Cause I'm
not sure." (EvelDick, apparently, it's how he signs everything to
me.)
I'm glad that you enjoyed the awards show article: "Bonaduci,
Fights, Forgiveness & Fairplay." I consider it the very highest of
compliments. Seriously, it meant allot! So, thank you very much.
You said in your letter to my editor that there are things you can
straighten out for me. I'll bet you can. I'm sure there are all kinds of things that
shaped, shaded, changed, and influenced your choices and behavior.
I bet there are all kinds of reasons, things that happened, whole
scenes we never saw. CBS edits everything. And when they do, they change our view,
into whatever they want it to be.
Tell me true. What happened to you? With you? Is there something
really important, some kind of misconception, that you're dying to correct and
explain?
EvelDick: Nope, not.....
