Big Brother: Zach Needs A Helmet Commentary by Emma Brand September 3, 2007
When last we left BB, the houseguests were embroiled in a competition for HoH where they had to fill up their 55-gallon tanks with 3 ounce cups. Jessica, having to abdicate her post and Jameka, who gave up the right to play were on the sidelines, Amber was headed to the sequester house (or was she? She didn't show up anywhere the evictees normally do), and Eric had promised his showmance that he was going to win the rest of the competitions. Not since Bill Clinton stared into the camera and said, "I did not have sex with that woman!" has there been an emptier promise.
Eric actually came in last, and Zach prevailed over the father and daughter devil combo. Quite a twist, since Zach is the quintessential floater. What side will he fall down on here. Thus far, Zach has been able to float along, giving no indication of what his actual strategy is, which may be a stretch because I am not sure that Zach has an actual brain, I guess we'll see this week.
Of course, had Jessica played with her brain last week, there would be no Daniele to worry about this week. I cannot believe that she didn't put up the Dick-Daniele power duo when she had the chance, instead sticking with Amber, who was never a threat because she was so emotional and Zach. But as they say "If if's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merrier Christmas."
Now Jessica and Eric are stuck playing the hand they dealt themselves. Jessica finds herself in a supposed final four alliance, which will pit she and Eric against Dick and Daniele assuming (and you know what they say about assuming) that no one stabs any of the four in the back prior to the Final Four. Eric has no ability whatsoever to win a competition and Daniele is absolutely fierce. Dick is no slouch himself. Yep, Jessica can point back to this past week as the one that cost her the game if she walks out the door on Thursday. And for what? A woobie and a few late night makeout sessions? When you put that up against a half million bucks, that kind of pales in comparison doesn't it? I thought so.
At least this week is a double eviction. That should add some spice to this game that has become disappointing, mainly because we, as Americans, are apparently hell-bent on telling our own player to do dumb stuff. This season is still entertaining but we lost some good strategic minded players to keep Dick and Daniele together, and that makes me irritated. There's still a lot to look forward to though.
For instance, I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the houseguests fall continuously. That's the kind of stuff you surf YouTube to find, and CBS just handed it to us. Apparently, America has chosen to have Eric fall continuously. I couldn't have wished it on a better person. Okay, maybe Dick, but coming on the heels of Eric's guaranteed HoH victory, watching him fall was pretty sweet. So of course, Eric punks out and fills up the beaker to get the phone call from home, which he gave to Jessica as an apology, I am assuming. The phone call itself did turn out to be one of the more touching moments I have seen on this show, but I kept wondering if he just wanted to shout, that douche bag Eric is a weasel, and he's playing you. I guess that's why he had that trapped look on his face, like a PA had a knife to his mother's throat off camera or something.
I didn't appreciate the extensive coverage they wasted episode time with though, because anyone who has an internet connection knew already that Zach was in charge. Anyone who didn't know still was probably not that entertained after about five minutes of watching four clumsy people skate on slippery wood to fill up that tank. Either way, I think it's pretty obvious though that episodes are pretty much filler anyway.
Watching Zach get his HoH room, did anyone else think.....
