Big Brother: Making It Up As They Go Along
Commentary by Jenny Lane
August 22, 2007
The second that Jen got up, she started eating right away. This makes everyone even madder. Zach says over and over all day how much he hates cheaters. Some say that because of the situation, Jameka should be able to compete for HoH next week. Everyone wants Jen to receive more of a penalty than just a nomination next week. Jen's walking around, proud of herself. Someone calls her out on this and she says that she's proud to be the first person to get a penalty nomination.

Eric makes a good point about the penalty. He points out that Jen gave up food in the PoV competition, and just got a penalty nomination when she ate. Therefore, Jameka should be able to compete in the HoH competition and just get a penalty nomination for doing so, since she gave that up in a PoV competition too. I don't know that the logistics of this scenario really work, but he's got a point.

During the day, it was hard to sift through the facts and rumors regarding Jen's punishment. Of course, through it all, she stuffed her face. I do think that Big Brother needs to put some real thought into things and do something, or all hell's going to break loose. Mid-afternoon, it sounded like she was going to automatically go home Thursday, and that there wouldn't be a vote. The others said that they wanted her to go home right away and not wait until Thursday.

At one point in the afternoon, Jen was in the diary room. Jessica went inside, and then raced outside, yelling to the others that Jen's picture had turned gray! Everyone ran inside yelling and cheering, only to find out that Jessica was playing a practical joke on them. Jessica isn't very bright sometimes, but that was a good one!

Jen decided to provide the cameramen and a certain percentage of the internet viewers with some eye candy this afternoon. She spent several hours sunbathing in the hammock, lying spread eagle with her bikini bottoms yanked up her crack. The cameramen spent a lot of time zooming in and out, and I'm glad that they got some amusement during an otherwise boring afternoon.

The latest news or maybe speculation is that Jen won't be getting a penalty nomination next week, but instead is getting a penalty vote this week. I don't really think that's much of a penalty, and it doesn't change the course of the game much. It's probably more fair to Jameka than the penalty nomination though.

At 9:00 p.m., Zach has headed to bed, and the others are hanging around doing nothing. Amber and Daniele still aren't back, and I can't believe what they're going to have to wrap their heads around when they get back!

I guess I understand Big Brother's rule about not destroying others' belongings, but I can't help thinking that everything has been blown all out of proportion. If Big Brother wanted to make some great TV, they should have just snuck Jen out last night after everyone went to sleep, and just said that they asked her to leave. That would have been much more scandalous than the letdown of a day we've had today. Or maybe they should have done it Real World style, and let the houseguests vote on whether or not Jen should go. I wonder if the producers are trying to keep Jen around, which could explain why some of this seems wishy-washy.

I definitely don't think that Jen should be allowed to eat nonstop. If she can, then maybe the PoV competition should be redone without Jen participating, but then again maybe not, because then the result might be that Jen's not even on the block. I do think that the rules for eating should be made clearer to the houseguests and to everyone. It sounds too much like they're making it up as they go along, which maybe they are. It's actually surprising that it took eight seasons for someone to break the rules like this.

When I think about what punishment might be better for Jen, I can't come up with one. I think it's because they have so little in the house, there isn't much to take away. They could take away her red unitard or her bikini or her 'Jen' shirts, but now I'm just being sarcastic.

Regardless of what happens, Jen has succeeded in accomplishing part of what I'm sure was her goal - to go down in Big Brother history!
