Big Brother: Jen-Vicious Makes No Friends
Episode 5 Recap by Jenny Lane
July 16, 2007
Last week on Big Brother 8, the game got going with Kail as the first Head of Household. Kail found an unlikely trio of allies in the game got going with Kail as the first Head of Household. Kail found an unlikely trio of allies in Nick, Zach and Mike. As HoH, she nominated Amber and Carol to be the first houseguest eliminated. Daniele won the Power of Veto, but didn't use it, so Kail's nominations remained intact. Only Jen voted for Amber to be evicted, and the rest of the house chose Carol, so she was the first houseguest ousted from the Big Brother 8 house. Following Carol's eviction, Jen surprised (and horrified) most of the houseguests by winning the HoH competition.

Of course, the first few weeks in the Big Brother 8 house haven't been without some drama. Nick and Daniele are our first showmance of the season. Dick has been unable to reconcile his relationship with his daughter Daniele. Even so, it does seem that they've formed some sort of alliance as far as the game goes. Jen's t-shirts ("Jensa," "Jenth Degree," and "Jenius" to name a few) are driving me up a wall, as are Daniele and Carol's voices. Amber has my nomination as the house's Drama Queen, and has ugly red puffy eyes most of the time. Ex-boyfriends Joe and Dustin had a big blowout fight early on, but now have settled into a "stay out of my way" plan, which seems to be working well.

The "America's Player" twist this year hasn't been very exciting, at least not yet. Last week, "our" player, Eric, had to make up a "tragic" story about his past and tell it to the houseguest of our choice. America chose Kail, and Eric told her a story about a friend of his being anorexic, and said that that's why he's so concerned about Daniele. Even though the story sounded completely fake to me, Kail fell for it. She told us that she finds Eric really sensitive, and told him that she knew that something had been bothering him. Hopefully, the tasks that America chooses for Eric will be a little juicier in the weeks to come.

Tonight's show begins with the houseguests discussing Carol's eviction. Amber tells us that "God put me on the chopping block to make me realize that I'm much stronger than I give myself credit for" which I think is completely ridiculous. Dustin and Dick are happy that Amber stayed, since they're aligned with her.

Jen realizes that her one vote for Amber may have alienated her with some of the houseguests, so she has a little chat with Amber and Daniele. She tells Amber that it's because they hadn't really talked. Daniele then gives Jen the perfect excuse and says that it's hard if someone doesn't get any votes to say. Jen shows her complete lack of a brain and says "yah, I didn't really consider that, but that's a good way, I should have said that, that would have made me look better."

Speaking of Jen's stupidity, I think that it's the reason that she won HoH. The question was "how many gallons of water does the spinning teacup in the back yard hold" and it was down to Joe, Dustin, Eric and Jen. I think everyone forgot to take the big opening/door into consideration, so the others guessed 136, 220 and 200. Jen guessed 41, the answer was 9, so she won only because the others had guessed way too high. The thing is, her answer was high if she had remembered about the door, and was ridiculously low if she hadn't. Actually, it's neither of those. Jen told the others that she "didn't think about it, and just wrote down a number. Like I said, she's brainless and the new HoH.

The houseguests' reaction to Jen's HoH was hilarious. When she won, everyone sat there with their mouth hanging open. Kail seems fine with Jen's win, and says she's glad that she was nice to Jen last week. Dick is of course horrified, because he butted heads several times during the week. Daniele also thinks that Jen has it out for her, because Nick jumped from a brief stay in Jen's bed into Daniele's, and Jen seems a bit jealous of that.

Zach, Mike and Dustin.....
