Beauty And The Geek 4: Stomping Grapes And The Competition
Episode 9 Recap by Travis H.
November 14, 2007
Last week on Beauty and the Geek, the gang returned to the mansion after a short "vacation" in Mexico where they left Natalie and John behind. As always there were two new challenges last week. The beauties had to follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin where they tackled the subjects of zoology, mammalogy, herpetology and entomology. In other words, the study of animals and insects. While the beauties studied zoology, the geeks studied mixology; mixing drinks with flair. Think Tom Cruise in "Cocktail". You know, back when he was actually still kind of cool?
The challenge for the beauties consisted of attempting to learn the Latin name for various creepy crawlies, then transporting those creepy crawlies by hand from one terrarium to another terrarium labeled in Latin. The creatures to be transported consisted of snakes, toads, grubs, scorpions and tarantulas! Yuck! Shay, Jasmine and Jen all freaked out a little, but eventually faced their fears and at least picked up a few of the nasty little buggers. Unfortunately for them, Sam didn't hesitate at all and ended up winning yet another challenge, bringing his total to five in a row.
The geeks challenge was simply to mix drinks for their beauties. They were judged based on how well they followed the recipe as well as on their style and flair. Most of the geeks struggled and quite honestly, they all kind of sucked. William felt he did the best and therefore thought he should have won the challenge, however he had to settle for second place after it was determined that Dave was the winner. This makes the second challenge in a row that Dave has won.
This meant that William and Jen and Joshua and Shay were headed to the elimination round. While Joshua and Shay spent their remaining time studying and complimenting one another, William and Jen had a very difficult time just attempting to be civil to one another. During the elimination round, the beauties each answered both of their questions correctly. William also answered both of his questions correctly while Joshua only answered one question correctly meaning that he and Shay were eliminated from the competition.
It's now the semi-finals and the remaining teams decide to have a moment of silence for Shay and Joshua who left last week. That moment of silence was cut short by somebody's fart. Really classy there guys (or gals)! Well, I must admit it did make me giggle a bit. He-He!
Dave has had a crush on Nicole since the beginning of the show, and while I thought from the previews last week that he was finally going to admit this to her and ask her out, he decided it was best to maybe wait until after the show is over. Probably a smart move there buddy. That could be quite awkward if she turned you down! Instead he talks to her about how when he feels he has a connection with a girl, that she always seems to be interested in somebody else and they go off, get married and have children. Then there was a girl that he liked in high school, but then his uncle died, and when he got back from the funeral she already had a boyfriend. I'm not sure these "poor pitiful me" stories are going to impress Nicole. I could be wrong as then Nicole adds her sad story to the conversation, and says she never really dated in high school. She had better things to do with her time and money.
Mike has gathered everyone together to explain what this week's challenges will be. With him, he brings a bottle of wine and explains that after the wine is bottled and shipped out to the world, it continues to mature for years to come much like after they all leave the mansion, they will continue to grow, long after they've left. Yeah, whatever. Their next challenge will take place in a vineyard. With only three teams left, the next challenge will be a team challenge. The winners of the challenge are guaranteed to make it into the final two. On the flip side, the two losing teams will face off in the elimination room.
Mike expresses to the teams the importance of working together this week, and then points out that Jen and William have yet to win a challenge. Thus far, no team has won Beauty and the Geek that has not won at least one challenge. Personally, I'm hoping that is the case this year and that Jen and William get sent packing this week. I don't mind Jen much, but William really get's on my nerves. My wish may not come true though as William has decided that this week, they will put their differences aside. We'll see about that.
At the vineyard, Mike explains how this challenge will work. First, each team must pick 20 pounds of grapes from the grape vines, and then transfer the grapes to the wine stomping buckets. Of course they will then be stomping those grapes with their bare feet. Once they have enough juice in their wine bucket, it's off to the bottling station where they must then bottle, cork and label three bottles of wine. The team that crosses the finish line with all three of their bottles of wine with them wins the challenge. Of course there's a catch, as always, and each team will be tied together, kind of like a three-legged race.
As usual, Sam and Nicole.....
