Biggest Loser 4: The Big Winners of the Biggest Loser
Recap by Donna Emery
September 6, 2007
This week on the Biggest Loser Special, we got reunited with several of the past three seasons' contestants, and got to see if they've been able to keep their up their losing ways.

This show has highlighted the weight loss journeys of many people over the last three years, and many fans have wondered if the contestants are able to maintain their weight loss. With obesity rates rising in the USA, and more and more Americans trying hard to lose weight, the show has become an inspiration and guide for many. Since the show tells us so much about the struggles of these contestants, many fans have contacted the show to ask whether their favorites have been able to keep the weight off. The show this week featured nine contestants from past seasons, and answered that question from their standpoints. It also included a romantic surprise for two of last season's contestants, a look at the "Biggest Loser Baby" and a preview of the upcoming new season.

First, we met the show's new hostess, Alison Sweeney. She is charming, blonde and perky and she seems both warm and welcoming to the contestants.

She welcomed back Marty, from season 3. He was a teacher and coach, and he hates looking at his old pictures. He began his journey at 365 pounds and says he didn't like himself back then. Now, he has a career as a fitness trainer. He helps other people lose weight. He revealed that he has been dating Amy, who was also a season 3 contestant. He says they are happy and that they live life to the fullest. He told Alison that he wanted to propose to Amy - right on the show. He showed Alison a beautiful ring that he planned to give Amy. He asked the audience to keep it a secret. When he stepped on the scale, it showed that his current weight is 240: a loss of 125 lbs.

Next came last season's Biggest Loser Erik. Alison reminded him that he'd lost more weight than any other contestant on the show. He said that he'd been in denial when he'd been heavy. He said he'd been had high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. He was working in a deli and eating his weigh up the scale. He said that now his blood pressure and cholesterol is normal, and that his diabetes is gone. When his wife saw him after he'd left the Ranch, she said it had been like "going back in time". Erik said that now he is "all about being active" with his life, especially with his children.

Alison asked Erik how he'd been able to keep weight off, since he worked in a deli. Erik agreed that it had been tough. He said he'd had to sell the deli. He said now he devotes himself to helping others lose weight. He started his weight journey at 407. He now weighs 231 - a loss of 176 pounds. Though Erik has gained a bit back since his amazing finale weight, he still looks great and lives a healthier life.

With these two successful contestants on board, Alison reminded us that the contestants don't lose weight on their own. She introduced the two coaches who had been there for last season's contestants: Bob and Kim. She asked them if they had any tips for those who want to lose weight. Kim said that people should "knock off the diet soda." She reminded everyone that water is the healthiest beverage, and that drinking lots of water can help your diet. Bob said that these days he is recommending yoga: a routine that helps both body and mind.

The next "blast from the past" was also on season 3: Pam, the mom of 2 who had had a very sedentary life before the show. She said that she'd been working 12 hours, and then coming home to lie on the couch watching TV for 3 hours. She said that if she hadn't been on the Biggest Loser, she would have missed out. She said that now she takes charge of her health. She said she's got her life back, and she's got her husband and kids back. She said that she and her husband have just completed a triathlon, and revealed that he is her greatest supporter. She began the program at 247, and now weighs 187. That's a loss of 60 lbs, and she looks great.

One of my favorite contestants was Pete from Season 2. I was thrilled when he won the prize for the most weight loss for the eliminated contestants in that season. Pete says that when he began his journey, he was pre-diabetic and had a heart problem. Now, he has teamed up with a weight loss group called the Jazzy Cats: it helps young kids stay healthy. He also works with an adult exercise group. His wife, who'd been proud to see him lose weight, had pledged to join him in his weight loss efforts, and he said that she'd supported him. When he walked onstage, it was obvious that he's continued his healthy lifestyle. He joyfully and effortlessly picked up Alison.

Pete further revealed.....
