Biggest Loser 4: The Big Winners of the Biggest Loser Recap by Donna Emery
September 6, 2007
Pete further revealed that his wife had lost weight: 30 lbs while he was at the Ranch, and even more when he came home. She told about how they'd gone to the supermarket when he came home, and studied labels, and found out how to eat a healthier diet. When Pete stepped on the scale, he joked that he had to do it the "Ranch Way": with his shirt off! And he looks great! Pete began his journey at 401 lbs, and now weighs 241; a loss of 160 lbs!
Last season, 36 people from across the country joined the players at the Ranch in their weight loss efforts. Of all the "Hometown Heroes", the one who lost the most percentage of weight had been Poppi, from New Jersey. She'd begun her journey at 236 pounds, and said that she'd then had a fear of success. Now she says she does 6- 9 hours of cardio exercise each week, and a few hours of strength training. She said that she is a comedienne, and that her act had been about being a big girl. When she lost the weight, she'd had to change her routine.
When Alison asked how she'd been able to succeed, she said that she'd decided to "put blinders on" and not to give up until she succeeded. She'd succeeded so well that when she'd gone to visit her mother, mom didn't recognize her! She says that sometimes when she wakes up in the morning, she checks her body to make sure she's still slim. She now weighs 126 - a loss of 106 pounds.
Another person who used comedy to hide the pain of her weight was Kellie Mac from Season One. She said that she'd been the un-athletic girl in every gym class. She said that the show had helped her to find her "inner athlete." Now, she says she is losing the final pounds that separate her from her goal weight. She says she makes time for exercise, even if she has to get up early. She is busy; she travels all over the country telling people about healthy living.
Alison asked her how often she works out. She says she works out at least 4 days each week, minimum, and has done so since the show three years ago. She says that now she's "at home" in the gym - and that she's chosen to live her life as an athlete.
She now weighs 160 lbs; a loss of 63 lbs.
Andrea is another successful contestant from Season One. She began that season at 215 lbs. She said she wasn't happy then, but since the show she'd retrained herself. She says that now she travels to teach others about proper nutrition and lifestyle changes. She said that she's grateful to be on a healthy journey. She looks great!
Alison asked her which was harder: losing the weight or keeping it off. She said it had been harder to lose it, and joked that was because she'd had to deal with trainer Bob. She went on to say that she'd been reuniting with herself and finding out who she was.
She now weighs 151, which is a loss of 64 lbs.
This past season, we met Wylie. He said that at the start of the show he'd been drained emotionally and was "just existing." He said that now he works with children who have emotional disabilities. He is part of a group called Best Buddies. He said his "best buddy" is named Chris, and he is honored to know him. He brings "Wylie's workout" - which is specially formulated for kids like Chris - to many places in order to help those kids. He said he wants to help people change their lives and be healthier.
Wylie began the show at 307 lbs. He now weighs 210; a loss of 97 lbs.
Although the Biggest Loser is focused on weight loss, many other great things happen to the contestants while they are on the show. Marty had begun this show by telling about the love he'd found with Amy, but there had been another couple who had met during season two, and fans of the show had been thrilled when Matt Hooper had asked perky Suzy Preston to be his wife. Now happily married, they have recently become the parents of a sweet little son named Rex. The couple talked for a few minutes about how they'd met.
Matt said that they hadn't always liked each other. At first, Suzy had thought he was " a mean jerk" and he'd thought Suzy was "too annoyingly happy." But after the "makeover" show, when Suzy had cut his hair, Matt had begun to look at himself differently and had also begun to see Suzy in a new light. Little by little, they'd begun to be friends and then had fallen in love.
Finally, the female partner in the current Biggest Loser romance was introduced. Amy had begun her weight loss journey at 260 pounds. She said that when she now looks at the pictures of herself at that weight, she thinks that person wasn't her. She says she was hurting on the inside. She now is healthy and has true confidence. She said that she also has met her soulmate in Marty. She has a healthy life and a great future.
Alison asked her how it had felt meeting someone through the show. Amy said that they'd seen each other at their worst and their best. She said that loving Marty is easy, and that she's lucky to have his support. When she stepped on the scale, it didn't reveal her new weight. Instead, the scale displayed a message that said "Amy, I Love You." She looked around in confusion and then Marty stepped up to the scale. He read a lovely romantic poem and then asked her to marry him. She said YES! They kissed and she let him put the ring on.
If that ending wasn't wonderful enough, Alison then treated us to a preview of the upcoming season of Biggest Loser. There will be 18 contestants, and we got to meet 5 of them:
Patti - who's worried because her doctor has told her that her liver enzymes are high, and wants to "be there" for her kids.
Jerry - a 62-year old retired firefighter
Hollie - a teacher and cheerleading coach who has been hurt by the way people talk about her weight.
"B" - who thinks he's handsome but when he looks at himself he knows it's a shame that
he's "let himself go". He says that he uses food to medicate himself.
Lezlye - who lost her home to Hurricane Katrina, and has fed her pain with food. Now
she wants to have a better life with her son.
The show says that this season we'll have the biggest challenges, and the biggest losses. And ….. Jillian will be back, to train a "secret Black Team" which will challenge the Ranch teams to their best season yet.
I can't wait until next week, for the two-hour premiere!
