Biggest Loser Couples: Transformation Station
Recap by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Donna Emery
May 16, 2009
This week on the Biggest Loser, all the contestants from this season came back to the Ranch to celebrate their amazing – and not so amazing – accomplishments.

The “live” finale – chock full of way too much filler and repeated scenes from this season - began by reminding us of some of the show’s success stories: Pete Thomas from Season 2 (looking amazing, as always), Julie Hadden from Season 4 (who most of us have forgotten by now), Bernie Salazar from Season 5 (who none of us can forget, because he’s been a guest on this season) and the most recent winner: Michelle Aguilar, Season 6’s Biggest Loser.

The first order of business is to determine which of the Brown team men will become the third finalist. Ron was no stranger to the yellow line, (I think he had a secret stash of Elimination Repellant) and he and his son Mike had fallen below it on the last weigh-in at the Ranch.

Mike was the first to pop through the large picture of his heavier self and he looked absolutely wonderful. He’s been getting more handsome every week, and his face looked so much thinner that my jaw dropped. Ron was next to pop through his picture, and he’s also lost a lot of weight – but he doesn’t look nearly as thin and handsome as Mike. The other two Morellis were in the audience, and though Mom looks as lovely as always, poor

Max doesn’t look as though he’s followed through with his own weight loss program.

Hostess Allison Sweeney reminds us there was a vote to determine which of these guys would win a place in the top three. She turns to each of the guys for a brief chat. Mike says his dad was a big support and Ron hopes that America pushed Mike through to the finals.

Well, there’s very little surprise from either the audience or the Morellis when Allison reveals that the audience has voted Mike to be a member of the final three, and therefore a contender for the big prize. Well, good for Mikey and let’s hope they made the right decision.

Everyone liked Mike this season, and few liked Ron and his Godfatheresque plotting to keep himself and his son in the game, but many saw the vote as a way to keep Mike with the At Home group, and therefore give him a better chance for a money prize. Nevertheless, America decided they’d had enough of Ron, and Mike was the one who got to be a part of the Final Three. Ron was happy; it was what he’d asked the voters to do. So he wins – sort of – again.

Before we see any of the other eliminated players, the producers want to tease us a bit, so they introduce two lovely young blondes who are candidates for next season. They both look like very nice girls, and although we know just the basics about them, we are told by Allison that we are supposed to vote to see which of them will get a place on the next season’s Ranch. This must be torture for these two girls; they are so close to being there and now one of them is about to lose their chance because they make a bad first impression on the audience? How fair is that?

Erinn is from Ohio and Amanda is from New Jersey. They look pretty interchangeable to me. They look equally nice. Both have missed out on a lot of life’s fullest experience because of their weight. So, we’re supposed to choose. Why do I see Monty Hall looming in the background? To help us choose, they are “surprised” by finding out that Bob and Jillian are waiting, backstage to train them in the convenient backstage gym during the ensuing hours of the show in order for us to see them in action and make a choice between them.

Well, we’re finally on to introducing the players that went home. The first two couples eliminated were the White and Red Teams. First out is Estella, who looks skinny and healthy and Jerry, who also looks skinny but like he’s about to wobble forward. He looks weak and although we knew they were the oldest couple on the show, they now look about 20 years older than we know their ages to be. Then comes Damien, who must have learned to “whoo!” from Taylor Hicks. He looks like he’s lost some weight, but could stand to lose some more. His fiancée, Nicole looks as slender and beautiful as she did for her short visit to the Ranch.

Allison reminds us of Jerry’s first week on the Ranch, when he collapsed during his first workout. Dr. Huizenga is in the front row and reminds us that Jerry was pretty sick when he first came to the show. Now, Jerry is healthy and very excited to be back.

Allison then turns to Nicole, who has some news. She and Damien are now getting married in August, and her wedding gown will be a size eight! This is more than she ever hoped for.

While the two teams change into their weigh in clothes, Allison checks with the two prospective contestants. They’re working out backstage, and the trainer aren’t yelling or cursing at either of them. They seem to be working out pretty hard and so far, it’s still pretty hard to figure out which to vote for.

As each person comes to the scale, we are treated to a montage of all their at-campus moments, as well as their transformation tapes. We’ve seen all this before, so I’m not going to rehash it here. Estella is first to weigh in. She started the contest at 242 pounds. She now weighs 159. She lost a total of 83 pounds, or 34.30%.

Jerry’s next. He started at 369 pounds. His current weight is an amazing 192. He lost 177 pounds. Jerry takes the lead with a 47.97% loss. I figured that was going to be hard to beat, but he couldn’t have won… could he?

Damien looks.....
