The Biggest Loser: The Ultimate Daddy Needs To Shut Up And Work On Himself

Why is he still there?
Tonight’s episode of the Biggest Loser was just flat out odd.
On the previews for next week we see that O’Neal suffers the death of his brother and then takes a hard fall in one of the competitions.
I am sorry for the man. I really am. But, good grief, WHY is he still here on the ranch?
We suffered through this once already during the Ron-father and Mike season.
Ron was not there for himself. He was there to manipulate the game to keep Mike to the end. Almost worked, sort of.
But O’Neal, OMG. I thought he had a breakthrough a couple weeks ago when Sunshine told him she was doing it on her own for herself. I thought he had a breakthrough in his recent trainer chat when he said he was doing it for himself.
NOT. No way. O’Neal seems to feel that his sole purpose on planet Earth is to support and make things happen for Sunshine. I do not believe for one moment that O’Neal is doing any of this for himself. And, unlike the Ron-father, O’Neal is not manipulating the game and making any difference for Sunshine. (Well, other than giving her the car he just won.) O’Neal gets his reward by feeling he is the Ultimate Daddy.
All O’Neal is doing is making my ears bleed.
O’Neal, listen to me. I’m a parent. Like you said tonight, I too would willingly throw myself on the tracks to save my child from the oncoming train. But no one is asking you to sacrifice yourself. In fact, to date you haven’t had a single opportunity to sacrifice yourself. You just talk a good game. And talk. And talk.
Sunshine gets the prize for putting up with it. Yes, she was pretty excited about that car. But was she excited when your blathering in her ear made her drop her tray of quarters. She was on the edge anyway, but I could see the words written across her eyes … “Dad, Shut the Hell Up”.
And at the weigh-in tonight I thought I would scream. The girl is trying to hold it together and you are patting her and blathering.
O’Neal. Sunshine is an adult woman. She is not the infant girl-child that you are lifting up to the heavens. She has had her epiphany about who she is and why she is here and how SHE plans to run this game. And, by the way, your little Sunshine is as strategic a player as Melissa … just nicer about it.
There are phrases out there, O’Neal, about cutting the cord and retarding a child’s growth. You are on the verge of being an enabler. It’s time to stop cheering endlessly. It’s time to recognize Sunshine’s strength by saying “I trust you to do this. Now I’m going to step aside and see if I can find me.”
And before I end this rant.....
