Biggest Loser Families: We’re All in the “No Workout” Boat
Episode 2 Recap by Donna Emery

The episode began with a flashback to last week’s elimination of the Grey Team, and to Alison’s announcement that “nothing says ‘family trip’ like a road trip. The contestants were thrilled to be told they’d all be going on a road trip to the Grand Canyon.
Red Team Amy said that going to the Grand Canyon was on her “list of things to do”.
Heba commented that she hoped the trip wouldn’t end up giving them a “screwed up week.” She predicted that it would be a “pivotal week, and going on vacation can bring temptations.”
Phil was wary. He knew that the trip sounded like fun, but “whenever I’ve thought it would be fun, the Biggest Loser has brought us surprises.”
Vicky couldn’t wait to see the Canyon, but she felt nervous about what might lie ahead.
They gathered for a group photo before the trip, and then they were off.
As they motored toward their destination, Shellay said she hoped they would be able to relax in a hotel for a few days, soak in the hot tub and rest. I had to wonder which show she thought she was on.
Heba and Ed were very uncomfortable in the seats, since they were too big to comfortably fit in them.
Jerry was thinking about the legend of how Paul Bunyan carved the Grand Canyon, but Coleen had to remind him that Paul Bunyan had an ox – not a mule.
The group stopped on the way to the Canyon, at an isolated convenience store. As they looked around, they saw a large RV approaching. They wondered who might be in it, but none were brave enough to find out. When Alison emerged from the vehicle, they knew they were in for a temptation challenge. Ali invited them to check out the RV, and they were all impressed by its amenities.
When they all came out of the RV, they saw that someone had brought over a cot with a pile of camping supplies. Allison explained that when the contestants arrived at the Grand Canyon, they would all be camping. And, although most would camp out in tents and on cots, two of them would be able to use an RV. Shellay was upset at the prospect of camping, because she didn’t know how she would be able to use her favorite beauty aids. Michelle just griped that she hated camping.
In order to see which family won the right to camp in luxury, they all went into the convenience store. Allison told them that convenience stores were great places to get the basics on a road trip, but could also offer many temptations. She explained that the gang would now be tested on their acquired knowledge of snack calories. She would give them a chance to guess how many calories might be in certain snacks. The family that guessed closest to the correct number of calories – without exceeding the correct number - would win a pack of Extra Fruit Sensations sugarless gum. The first family to win three packets of the gum would win the game, and the right to sleep in the RV.
As always, there was a catch.....
