Biggest Loser Families: Are You Willing To Fight For It?
Episode 9 Recap by Donna Emery

This week on the Biggest Loser, Amy had a chance to make many Biggest Loser viewers – including me – very happy.
When she had the chance to get rid of her tormenter, she instead sent home one of the nicest players in the game. I still love Amy, but I have no idea what she was thinking.
The episode began with two mystified teams, walking back to the Ranch. No one had expected Amy to cast the vote which would send Brady home. The Black team was happy. Coleen said she was in shock, but was glad that Michelle was still there. The Blues were also in shock, but Vicky was livid.
Amy seemed a bit confused herself. “All week I was determined to stay true to Blue, but at the last minute I thought of myself. I had an opportunity to take out the person in the #2 position and I took it. Brady may have stopped me, and I want to be the Biggest Loser.”
Renee didn’t care why Amy had done it. “I’m just glad Michelle and I are still here, and I can’t think about why.”
Ed was a bit worried about Vicky’s reaction. “Amy needs to look out for Vicky,” he revealed. “She’s crazy. She’ll claw your eyes out.”
Vicky was fuming to Heba: “Is she that stupid, or is she in alliance with the Black team? She just messed up the whole game!”
Heba was less angry, but she was puzzled. “We had this one. What happened?”
Vicky continued her tirade. “We’re screwed. We should be frolicking in the Garden of Eden but that stupid backstabbing bitch bit the apple! Doesn’t she have a brain? I will miss my husband, but I’m more upset about the game.” Nice priorities, Vicky.
Heba was philosophical. “I don’t want to get involved. My plan this week is to stay above the line. People will do whatever they want, and I want to be sure they don’t do it to me or Ed.”
Vicky apparently continued her rant throughout the evening, and woke up with it fresh in her mind. She posted a handwritten “Revenge!” sign on her bedroom door, and hit the gym at 6am. She said she feels sad and bitter. She cursed up a storm on her way to workout. “I won’t let her fool me twice. I am going to watch my calories and work out. While everyone else is sleeping, I’ll be in the gym.”
Two hours later, Michelle and Renee came to the gym and found her there alone. Renee concluded that Vicky “isn’t a happy person. Anger can motivate you, but it can also be destructive.”
When Bob joined his team that morning, he asked where Amy and Brady were. Vicky simmered while she told him Amy was in her room, but Brady was home. Bob was shocked. “I expected to find 5 blue shirts here.” Vicky revealed her feelings to Bob: “Amy is a lying, backstabber. It was an easy game but she made it hard.”
Bob wondered if Vicky had asked Amy why. Vicky replied, “I can’t stand to look at her. She betrayed me. I can’t talk to that Benedict Arnold.”
Bob was concerned. “Once it gets this personal, it will mess Vicky up. If she is this driven by revenge, it will bite her in the butt.” He decided to talk to Amy. “My team is falling apart and I have to pull it together.”
Amy was crying in her room. Bob knew his job is to be sure all of his team members lose enough weight to stay above the line. “If Amy felt she needed to do this to stay in the game, I have to support her.”
Amy tried to explain. “I changed my mind at the last minute. I didn’t think I could beat Brady. I did it for myself. I didn’t lie to my team; I just decided to put myself first. I’ve never done that before.”
Bob reflected, “In the years I’ve been on this show, I’ve learned that someone may not always be loyal based on what color team shirt they wear. Amy put herself first, and that’s good. Not putting herself first is what got her fat. Amy is now in the number one position and she has a real chance to win the game.” He reminded Amy of Season Three’s Eric, who had had to vote off his friend and teammate, Marty.
Amy was determined: “I am going to win this game. I’m a hard worker. I won’t let you down.”
Bob was impressed with her spirit, but knew it would be a hard week for her. “Amy isn’t part of either of the teams, now. She is on an island, but I’m on that island with her.”
Later, all the contestants were walking and were surprised to see a DeLorean car pull up. Out stepped hostess Allison Sweeney, decked out in clothes from the 1980’s. She sported ripped jeans and leather jacket and boots. “It’s totally 80’s week!” she chirped. She went on, in stilted Valley Girl language to tell the gang that they’d have to dress in 80s clothes and do 80s workouts.
Renee groaned. She remembered having five kids and gaining and losing weight during the 80s. She didn’t want to go back.
Ed was ready to go. “I was a pimp in the 80s,” he revealed. “The ladies dug Big Ed in primary school. Those were my golden days.” It wasn’t evident from the silly picture that they flashed from his primary school days, but OK. He eagerly donned a pair of “crotch-hugger shorts” and boasted, “I make the 80’s look good!”
Amy was happy. “I love the 80’s. This is going to be fun.”
Jillian gathered her girls and introduced them to her friend, Anthony. She told them they were going to learn about break dancing. Anthony explained that break dancing was all about “attitude and confidence.” The girls did their best to learn the moves, and Jillian had fun watching them.
On the way to the workout, Amy remained jubilant. She revealed she was mostly hoping “to see how short Bob’s shorts are.” Me, too, Amy.
Bob didn’t disappoint; he looked as great in those shorts as expected. He told his group they’d be doing step aerobics. They stretched and had fun, though Heba admitted she’d worried that Ed might “fall out of his shorts.” Glad we were spared that, Heba.
Bob had hoped that the workout might draw his team together. After they exercised, he talked to them. “We have to move forward,” he told them. “The best results can come out of the worst times. We can’t lose sight of our goals.” He asked if anyone wanted to say anything.
No one did. Vicky admitted she couldn’t look at Amy. Bob realized his plan hadn’t worked. He said the feeling among his team was bad. “If they don’t talk, they’ll fall apart.”
For this week’s challenge, the teams met – still in 80s garb – at a field where there were seven gates fashioned with buckets above them. The buckets had each person’s name on them. Heba was scared they might contain green slime.
Allison reminded them that the 80s had been the decade when obesity had first been identified as a disease. She reminded them it had been the time of “Diet Cokes and Jane Fonda.” She revealed that the buckets above them had 50% of their weight, in water. She would be asking the contestants questions about the 1980s. If they answered a question correctly, they would get to add water to another contestant’s barrel. If they answered it incorrectly, they would get water added to their own barrel. The last person standing would win a wireless workout with Bob, a stereo headset and the choice of $5,000 or the ability to add one pound to any other player’s total at the upcoming weigh in.
Guess which one Vicky wanted – and who she wanted to give it to.
Everyone soon realized the water in their barrels was heavy.
First, they were asked.....
