Biggest Loser Family Edition: Only One Rooster in the Henhouse
Rankings by Donna Emery
As of October 30, 2008
This week on the Biggest Loser, the focus was still on the gameplaying Blue Team, and yet another person became the casualty of the manipulations of Cruella De-Vicky and her sidekicks: Baffled Brady and Hystrionic Heba.

Trainer Bob Harper has been around the block more than once with Biggest Loser contestants and he’s seen all kinds of tricks. So he smelled a rat with Brady’s lack of weight loss, and with the evidence of Red Amy’s exit. So when he confronted Vicky and Brady, he called them out in a straightforward way. Although they came up with a legitimate reason for Brady’s poor results, I still think it was horsefeathers. Had his 3 pounds been an unlucky accident, Vicky wouldn’t have smiled so triumphantly when that number flashed on the screen last week.

She didn’t convince me of their innocence, and she further alienated me by continuing to goad Heba into that anger-filled confrontation of Phillip, during dinner. It wasn’t enough to give silent approval to Heba’s accusations; she fed into it. And how juvenile was it to call him a “ding a ling.”

Brady seems like a drone to Vicky’s queen, but his vow to be the “only rooster in the henhouse revealed that he’s playing along with her master plan.

I don’t think Purple Amy is part of the plot, although she came along with her team to the Dinner of Yelling. She seems like she’s in it for the right reasons, and her results are consistently good. I think she’s got a great chance to win it, but she’d better stay on top of that Yellow Line now that Allison reminded everyone that she is the on-campus leader.

I don’t know why the Black Team did so poorly this week, unless it’s because most of them have hit plateaus. Feisty Coleen doesn’t have much further to go, and though Michelle and Renee do have a bit to lose yet, their numbers haven’t been phenomenal. As for Phil, he played right into the Blue Monsters’ plot and had a tough week.

I don’t know if the Black team did the right thing by sending him home. His renewed resolve toward the end of this week could have spelled big numbers next week, and it’s unlikely that Coleen can match his percentage. She’s just not as much of an asset to them, except for morale. I can understand their loyalty to each other, but if they want to stand up to the Blues, they needed the bigger numbers that Phil might have provided. Not only did they give the Blue team exactly what they wanted, they may have shot themselves in the foot.

Right now I am praying that Renee, Coleen or Purple Amy stays in it long enough to win.

Here’s how they stand in the running for the prize:

Amy
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1
A 26-year old purchaser from Auburn Hills, Michigan. She’s sweet and bubbly and she and her mom work well together. She’s currently studying cosmetology and has battled her weight since middle school.

She’s the only one of the Blue Team I’m still rooting for, and I do enjoy her natural reactions to the events of the game. She called herself “a force to be reckoned with” and she’s right. She’s funny, open and honest and I hope she isn’t the next casualty of the game. She has lost 52 pounds or 21.76%

Brady
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 4
A 36-year old pharmacist from Hourna, Louisiana. Brady is proud of his Native-American heritage and wants to be a good example for their two children. He says he is the counselor, but considers his team to be very competitive.

I don’t buy his “Papa Bear” act or his protestations of wonder at why he lost 3 pounds last week and 13 this week. Brady is a workhorse and he’s becoming fit and healthier. His antics in the last two weeks have shot him up in the ratings, but Vicky’s revelation that “one of them” will go home if Amy is the Biggest Loser the next time Blue goes to the chopping block spells possible doom for Brady. This week’s loss equals a total of 71 pounds or 20.82%.

Vicky
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 3
A 37-year old anesthestist from Hourna, Louisiana. She’s been good at juggling career and home up until now, but realizes she hasn’t taken enough time for herself. She’s setting out to prove that working moms are a force to be reckoned with!

No, she’d NEVER purposely lose a weigh in. Maybe I’d have given her the benefit of the doubt if I didn’t think she did it again, this week. If she did waterload, and was expecting a big loss next week it may save her and force someone else home, but the return of the at-homers could shift the balance and that means trouble for her alliance. She’s done well so far, with a loss of 45 pounds, which is 18.29%

Colleen
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 5
A 23-year old receptionist from Cleveland, Ohio. She’s a cute but formidable opponent who has struggled with her weight since her teens. She wants to be more active and have a healthier life

Her team spirit and leadership saved her from going home this week, but I don’t know how much longer she can continue to be safe. She’s looking better every week and I’m glad she’s still here, but I don’t know how much longer she will be able to hold on. She has lost 39 pounds or 17.89%

Michelle
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 6
A 26-year old aspiring aviation engineer from Dallas, Texas. She has a beautiful smile and a personality to match. She looks forward to taking off enough weight to take charge of her life.

She’s looking absolutely gorgeous, and I don’t understand her poor results this week. She and her team busted tail this week. I am neutral about her chances, but for now she’s doing well. She has now lost 42 pounds or 17.36%

Renee
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 7
A 46-year old event planner from Dallas, Texas. She’s just as lovely as daughter Michelle, although she worries about the effects of her weight on her new marriage. She wants to travel to Hawaii after she loses some weight.

Pink Mama rocks! Once again she was a tower of strength for her team as she single-handedly held over 900 pounds for a few seconds. She’s working hard and I love her spirit. So far her 45 pounds equals 16.85%.

Heba
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 8
A sales representative from Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s easy to like Heba. Her bubbly personality and determination make her fun to watch. She really wants to have a child someday, and knows that better health would be helpful.

She accused Phillip of making things personal but she’s the one who took things out of proportion this week. Interrupting the Black Team’s dinner with her tirade was just over the top. Although I am glad to see her weight loss success, she and the rest of the Alliance could jump on the next train home and I’d cheer. She still has the lowest percentage. She has now lost 47 pounds or 15.99%

Phillip
7th Elimination
A 41-year old real estate agent from Greer, South Carolina. To me, Phillip looks a lot like TV’s “Dr. Phil”, and he seems just as likeable. He began to gain weight while serving in the Air Force. He’s been married to his high school sweetheart for almost 20 years.

Mr. Nice Guy went home this week and although I still think the Black Team made a bad decision, I loved seeing his vows renewal with Amy. Maybe he did take his focus off the game but I think his weight loss next week would have been a big one. He looked amazing in his transformation video and I wish him and Amy well. He lost 62 pounds on the show, and that’s 18.73%.

Amy
6th Elimination
A 40-year old real estate agent from Greer, South Carolina. This bubbly lady is a dynamo at the office, but raising her autistic son took a toll on her emotions and led to a weight gain. Now, she wants to get healthy and be a better role model.

I am so sad to see her go, but really glad to see how great she looks. The scenes of her on horseback with Rhett were priceless. Go, Amy! Keep up the great work. She lost 38 pounds or 16.58%

Shellay
5th Elimination
A 51-year old stay-at-home mom from Royal Oaks, Michigan. She hopes to enter the job market, and wants to prove that she can lose the necessary weight.

I was sorry to see her go home, but WOW she looked amazing in her transformation video! So glad she kept up her weight loss and it will be wonderful to see her at the finale. She lost 27 pounds, which is 12.5%.

Ed
4th Elimination
A chef from Raleigh, North Carolina. Cooking delicious food all day doesn’t help in his quest to lose weight, but he and Heba would like to have a family, so he’s hoping a weight loss will be the key to better health.

What a beautiful speech he made to Heba. What a sweet thing to see his sincere feelings for her. He’s done so well at home; I am looking forward to seeing him at the finale.

Jerry
3rd Elmination
A 51-year old police sergeant from Cleveland, Ohio. We already know he is the “sickest contestant”, so I have to give him kudos for however long he and Colleen make it through the game.

I will miss Jerry and seeing his relationship with Coleen, but for his sake it was best for him to go home. If you saw the transformation video, you know Jerry’s doing great now! On the show he lost 17 pounds, or 4.43 %

Tom
2nd Elimination
A 42-year old cab driver from Everett, Massachusetts. He sits in a cab all day, so it’s tough to keep the weight off. He wants to find more time and energy to spend with his family.

Tom did a great job while he was at the Ranch. He began at 314 lost 8.59% before he was eliminated.

LT
1st Elimination
A 23-year old cab driver from Everett, Massachusetts. He works with his dad in the taxi, and has copied some of dad’s bad food habits.

L.T. tried his best, but the curse of Week Two caused him to gain weight. He began at 357 and lost 4.2%
Next week’s preview gave me hope that the game may yet turn around. With the sent-home players returning, it’s always interesting to see who will be back to shake up the game. I’m praying that if someone returns to the Blue Team, it doesn’t add to the Alliance, but some spoilers I’ve recently read have led me to believe otherwise. Nevertheless, on this show, it’s not over ‘til the skinny lady sings.
