Biggest Loser Family Edition: The Mindset Of The Blue Superiority
Rankings by Donna Emery
As of November 12, 2008
This week on the Biggest Loser, Brady learned that there really is only room on the Ranch for just one “rooster” – and that it’s no longer him.

When the eliminated players returned, it was great to see their weight losses and touching to see reunions between Shellay and Purple Amy, and even nice to see Heba welcome her hubby back to the game. I rejoiced with all the losses and it seemed like a preview of the finale. I was sad that Jerry couldn’t be there, in person, for the weigh in, but glad it was only because he had to work.

The producers’ decision to choose a returning player by the results of the challenge seemed a bit unfair, since the winner of this contest will be chosen because of percentage of weight loss. But although Phillip should have been the one to return, I suppose it’s for the best he didn’t - since the atmosphere would have been poisonous with the vitriol exchanged between him and the ladies in Blue.

I don’t yet have the same grudge against Ed that I do against Heba and Vicky, but it stands to reason that he’ll soon be indoctrinated into the mindset of Blue Superiority.

Upcoming weeks will show us if he can pull his numbers up to a competitive level.

It was great to see last year’s winner, Alison. She still looks absolutely great, and it shows that she is keeping up her hard-learned healthy ways. I know it inspired the contestants and hopefully gave all the ladies a push toward being the next one to win the prize.

I felt temporarily sorry for Jillian this week, because she felt doomed by the Blues’ perceived domination of the game. But although she will probably keel over from shock when Michelle walks through the door, she’ll soon rally and strategize about how to keep her girls in the game. Maybe Purple Amy should further armor herself against the inevitable retaliation –emotional and perhaps otherwise - from her former allies in Blue. Make no mistake about it; they will take this personally.

I have to give Bob credit: he may be furious at Vicky, Heba and even Brady, but he puts his personal feelings aside and does his best to coach and assist every member of his team. He is using an individual approach for each contestant and shows he truly cares about their ultimate success.

Amy
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1
A 26-year old purchaser from Auburn Hills, Michigan. She’s sweet and bubbly and she and her mom work well together. She’s currently studying cosmetology and has battled her weight since middle school.

She’s still on top, and I couldn’t be happier. She totally deserves the win and here’s hoping she hangs on long enough to get it. Good for her for standing up for herself, but she’s incurred the wrath of the Alliance, and they have proven to be formidable enemies. Hang in there, Amy! Just a few more weeks and then you’ll clinch your spot in the finals. She’s now lost 58 pounds, or 24.27%

Vicky
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 3
A 37-year old anesthestist from Hourna, Louisiana. She’s been good at juggling career and home up until now, but realizes she hasn’t taken enough time for herself. She’s setting out to prove that working moms are a force to be reckoned with!

She really went over the top in her screaming rant against Phillip, and even Bob sees through her sweet façade. Good for her for finally beginning to work hard and getting such great numbers this week, but who knows if those numbers were the result of her work or some creative weight loss strategy? I can only hope she’ll be on the bottom next week. She’s now lost 53 pounds or 21.54%

Colleen
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 4
A 23-year old receptionist from Cleveland, Ohio. She’s a cute but formidable opponent who has struggled with her weight since her teens. She wants to be more active and have a healthier life

What an inspiring contestant! I’m still hoping she can hang in there until the finals and this week’s efforts show she just may be able to do it. She’s becoming a true force to be reckoned with and she continues to be as likeable as ever. This week her total loss reached 46 pounds or 21.1%

Michelle
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 5
A 26-year old aspiring aviation engineer from Dallas, Texas. She has a beautiful smile and a personality to match. She looks forward to taking off enough weight to take charge of her life.

SO glad she survived the elimination! Here’s hoping she loses big next week and stays in the game. I am enjoying watching her relationship grow with Renee, and pray she can hang onto her place in the game. She has lost 48 pounds or 19.83%

Renee
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 6
A 46-year old event planner from Dallas, Texas. She’s just as lovely as daughter Michelle, although she worries about the effects of her weight on her new marriage. She wants to travel to Hawaii after she loses some weight.

Renee is another one of my favorites and I love her generous and positive spirit. I’m glad she gets to be with Michelle another week. She’s lost 52 pounds or 19.48%.

Heba
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 7
A sales representative from Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s easy to like Heba. Her bubbly personality and determination make her fun to watch. She really wants to have a child someday, and knows that better health would be helpful.

If she weren’t part of the Alliance, I’d say her numbers place her in danger, but she’s cranked up her losses in the last few weeks and may just be in it to stay for awhile. She needs to check her attitude at the door, but I have to give her credit for an impressive 56 pound loss, though her high starting weight means this is only 19.01%.

Ed
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: Eliminated
A chef from Raleigh, North Carolina. Cooking delicious food all day doesn’t help in his quest to lose weight, but he and Heba would like to have a family, so he’s hoping a weight loss will be the key to better health.

He may be back on the Ranch, but he’s going to have to crank up the weight loss if he wants to stay there. Heba might be happy there’s finally someone with a lower percentage, except it’s her husband. He has lost 62 pounds or 18.51%. Unless he improves his numbers next week he could turning right around to go back home

Brady
9th Elimination
A 36-year old pharmacist from Hourna, Louisiana. Brady is proud of his Native-American heritage and wants to be a good example for their two children. He says he is the counselor, but considers his team to be very competitive.

He’s been one of the leaders for awhile, and his support may have been part of Vicky’s momentum. Although I don’t expect her to crumble because her spouse left (like Phil did) here’s hoping she is less focused next week. While on the Ranch, he lost 77 pounds or 22.58%

Phillip
7th Elimination: Update - Has lost 68 pounds, or 20.54%

A 41-year old real estate agent from Greer, South Carolina. To me, Phillip looks a lot like TV’s “Dr. Phil”, and he seems just as likeable. He began to gain weight while serving in the Air Force. He’s been married to his high school sweetheart for almost 20 years.

Mr. Nice Guy went home this week and although I still think the Black Team made a bad decision, I loved seeing his vows renewal with Amy. Maybe he did take his focus off the game but I think his weight loss next week would have been a big one. He looked amazing in his transformation video and I wish him and Amy well. He lost 62 pounds on the show, and that’s 18.73%.

Amy
6th Elimination: Update - Has ost 47 pounds, or 20.52%

A 40-year old real estate agent from Greer, South Carolina. This bubbly lady is a dynamo at the office, but raising her autistic son took a toll on her emotions and led to a weight gain. Now, she wants to get healthy and be a better role model.

I am so sad to see her go, but really glad to see how great she looks. The scenes of her on horseback with Rhett were priceless. Go, Amy! Keep up the great work. She lost 38 pounds or 16.58%

Shellay
5th Elimination: Update - Has lost 39 pounds, or 18.06%

A 51-year old stay-at-home mom from Royal Oaks, Michigan. She hopes to enter the job market, and wants to prove that she can lose the necessary weight.

I was sorry to see her go home, but WOW she looked amazing in her transformation video! So glad she kept up her weight loss and it will be wonderful to see her at the finale. She lost 27 pounds, which is 12.5%.

Jerry
3rd Elmination: Update - Has lost 41 pounds, or 10.79%

A 51-year old police sergeant from Cleveland, Ohio. We already know he is the “sickest contestant”, so I have to give him kudos for however long he and Colleen make it through the game.

I will miss Jerry and seeing his relationship with Coleen, but for his sake it was best for him to go home. If you saw the transformation video, you know Jerry’s doing great now! On the show he lost 17 pounds, or 4.43 %

Tom
2nd Elimination: Update - Has lost 48 pounds, or 15.29%

A 42-year old cab driver from Everett, Massachusetts. He sits in a cab all day, so it’s tough to keep the weight off. He wants to find more time and energy to spend with his family.

Tom did a great job while he was at the Ranch. He began at 314 lost 8.59% before he was eliminated.

LT
1st Elimination: Update - Has lost 57 pounds, or 15.97%

A 23-year old cab driver from Everett, Massachusetts. He works with his dad in the taxi, and has copied some of dad’s bad food habits.

L.T. tried his best, but the curse of Week Two caused him to gain weight. He began at 357 and lost 4.2%
It’s no secret that I am not a fan of the Blue Alliance, and I truly hope that none of them win the game. I think I may have to resign myself to accepting one of them being in the finals but I can only hope only one of them survive – only to (hopefully) be creamed by one of the nicer ladies still in the game. I also predict that not much can prevent another lady from being the Biggest Loser this year, but maybe Ed will surprise us all.
