Canadian Idol: Forgettable, That's What You Are
Top 4 Results Show Recap by Jon Dos
August 29, 2007
First off, I want to thank everyone for surprising me with a huge celebration for my recent appearance on TV earlier this week. I missed Idol as a result but I heard that I didn't miss much.
The Idols open the show performing a few Paul Anka hits. They begin with "Puppy Love" and Carly Rae and Jaydee act cute as usual and Dwight and Brian steal Carly Rae away and compete for her. Ha! The Idols finish with "Diana." Paul Anka joins them for "Put Your Head On My Shoulders" which the audience sings along to and he dances with one lucky member of the audience. The group numbers have been disappointing but this was a tad better than usual.
Ben welcomes us and reminds us of another Paul Anka performance later in the show. We say hello to our judges and are reminded of last night's festivities. From this short clip, I'm not that disappointed I missed the show.
It's time for Paul Anka to perform again and he is performing one of his signature songs, "My Way." He is one classy gentleman and deservingly receives a standing ovation from the judges and audience. For those interested, he will be touring soon in Canada and will be in Toronto on December 4, 2007 at Massey Hall.
It's time for some filler. It's our typical filler but one thing worth mentioning is that they discuss songwriting at one point and Jaydee is clearly out of place.
With that out of the way, it's time to get to the results. Ben reads all to the Idols their comments from the judges, then turns to the judges to address each Idol.
Sass addresses Carly Rae: Carly is a lovely human being and touched a lot of hearts this summer.
Jake addresses Jaydee: Jaydee may be young but with proper development and a few more years, he could not only be a huge Canadian star, but an international one as well.
Zack addresses Brian: Very few people have grown through this process the way Brian has. He walks the walk and talks the talk like a champion. His humble attitude will take him all the way.
Farley addresses Dwight: Dwight should take everything out of this opportunity towards his journey as a musician.
There is no bottom 2 this week; instead we get straight to who will be leaving us. Everyone seems to think Dwight will be leaving and after being in the bottom the past two weeks, I think third time will be a charm.
Ben tells the Idols, "Canada voted, the Idol who received the fewest votes last night is Dwight." Cue the farewell video! Ben asks Dwight for some final words. Dwight made it further than he had hoped for but he had the time of his life. With that said, Dwight sings us out and we are one step closer to crowning the next Idol.
Next week, it is the "Judge's Choice/People's Choice" theme. From the list below, I think the selection could be greater. Let's hope the judges make better choices. See you next week!
