Canadian Idol: Top Five Results Show
Recap by Jon Dos
August 22, 2007
The Idols open the show performing "Change the World" by Eric Clapton. It's another typical group number. The solos are just okay but the harmonies need some serious work!

Ben welcomes us to our show, telling us Canada voted 4.0 million times last night. Impressive! Voting is starting to pick up. Ben reminds us that Kelly Clarkson will be performing later in the show, after we say hello to our judges, get a recap of last night, and sit through a commercial.

After the break, Kelly Clarkson performs her first single from "My December," "Never Again" and "Because of You" from her "Breakaway" album. Kelly receives a well deserved standing ovation from all four judges. I'm not a fan of her latest single but she sounded great on TV, even sounding like Pink at times. Kelly went acoustic for "Because of You" and delivered just as much emotion as she does in the studio version.

No filler tonight so we can get straight to the results. Brian receives the news first and he is the first safe competitor. Thank you Canada! Dwight is next and he is the first member of the bottom 2. Matt, Carly, and Jaydee are left. Jaydee is safe, and so is Carly. Matt will be joining Dwight at center stage. Interestingly, I actually thought Dwight and Matt would be the last ones to get cut before the Top 10, but both have managed to make it all the way to the Top 5!

Based on last night, Zack is asked if this is who he would've predicted as the bottom two. Zack puts his faith in the people because there is only one rule, and that is that Canada picks the Idol.

Jake is asked if the bottom two had trouble connecting with Canada. Jake doesn't think so. Dwight had trouble with the words at the top of the song and Matt went first which is difficult. Both of them did a great job.

Sass is asked how hard it is to say goodbye at this point. Making the Top 5 is a huge achievement. It's not about who goes home, it's about what they do when they get there.

Finally, Farley is asked about next week's theme, the "Standards," and how hard it will be for the Top 4 to connect to the music. Farley states that it is a challenge to allow your signature style to permeate to the themes the Idols are asked to do. They've got to step up and step out.

After our last commercial, Ben announces, "Dwight, Canada voted and you will be back next week" which means Matt's journey has come to an end. Cue the farewell video! In Matt's video, he thanks Canada for voting and keeping him this far. It has been an amazing experience. Matt sings us out and that wraps another week of Idol.

Next week, the Idols will be performing the "Standards" with Paul Anka as our guest. I'm not sure if it'll be a great theme considering the Top 4 will be out of their element. Stranger things have happened so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed!
