Canadian Idol: Where Are They Getting Their Support?
Top 9 Results Show Recap by Jon Dos
July 25, 2007
Last night, the Idols stepped it up for this week's sixties theme. I said last night, and I'll say it again, tonight is going to be tough to predict and we could be in for a shocker. Sadly, they all can't stick around until next week so this is going to be a tough farewell for the unlucky victim.

Ben welcomes us, without hyping the millions of votes received, but he does mention a special single will be performed by the Idols later on in the show. We quickly say hello to the judges and are reminded of last night's great show. You can read my recap of it here.

We are treated to a video of the Idols' visit to a Ronald McDonald house in London, Ontario. It's not the typical drawn out filler we're used to. It's a heartwarming piece and it's worth including here. It was a magical moment for Dwight to join in on the fun and make the kids' day. Jaydee never had a chance to see a Ronald McDonald house but after visiting, he thinks it's phenomenal. To Carly, this puts everything in perspective. It's been an amazing experience for Greg to see how much how it helps to keep families together. Brian sums up that day as perfect. Day care worker Khalila thinks we should do more to help out. Martha Joy was touched to see the kids so strong even though they are going through a hard time. It was great for Tara to share some laughs, and to just hang out. And this experience speaks to Matt because the kids go the distance in spite of their troubles.

With that said, here comes the Idols performing their charity single "Believe in You" by Amanda Marshall. Everyone sounds great and just like last week's group number, Khalila and Martha are the standouts. It's a great song with a deep meaning, and everyone easily connects to the song. The song can be downloaded off iTunes and proceeds will go towards helping the Idols build the retreat in British Columbia.

No guest performers this week so we are treated to some more filler, and it's the typical filler we've been accustomed to. It's a behind the scenes at the mansion with the Idols discussing the audition process. Khalila auditioned way back in season one but was turned away. What?! Martha Joy waited 14 hours to see the judges in London with her whole family. Greg talks to his parents on the phone and they tell him how there are posters and signs everywhere. Brian can relate to this in Hamilton. Tara still thinks she's a normal person but to everyone, she's the world. Jaydee asks if anyone remembers any of the judge's comments but only Carly does.

It's time now for the results. Martha Joy is first and she is in the bottom 3! Dwight and Matt learn their fate together, and they're both safe! Wow! I predicted them to be the last ones cut before the finals, and I predicted them both to be in this week's bottom 3. Where are they getting the support? Next up is Tara, and she is safe. Greg, Khalila, and Carly are delivered the news together. If you recall, these were my top 3 last night. Greg is safe, and so is Carly. Khalila is in the bottom 3! It's between Brian and Jaydee, and Brian is the third person in the bottom 3. Wow, this can't be happening to me. Either way, I'm losing a favourite tonight.

So why were these three in the bottom? Zack says that the bottom line is the issue of the "wow" factor and only Matt made people at home go wow.

Farley is asked who is going home. Based on performances, maybe it will be Martha Joy but he doesn't think that should happen.

Based on last night, Sass is asked which of the Idols sitting on the couch should consider they lucky. She thinks everyone was terrific and doesn't name anyone.

Finally, Jake is asked what he hopes to see next week. With next week being an unplugged theme, he hopes for intense emotion.

Commercial time! Wait! Ben spares us, and announces Martha Joy is safe! Brian and Khalila are left hanging, awaiting the results during the dreadful commercial break. No commercials are recapped here so let's get right to it. Ben announces that Khalila has been eliminated. Ben rolls her farewell video and Khalila sings us out.

I mentioned last night that if we're in for a shocker, Khalila will be leaving but I'm still in shock! I thought that after her visit to the bottom 3, she proved to Canada that she belonged in the competition. And because of the fact that Khalila was in danger, I thought that would be enough to motivate fans to vote harder. I was pretty sure Dwight would be leaving this week, or at least land in the bottom 3. I even had the title of my article prepared as "d'Eon Undun" and I'm too shocked to get my creative juices running. First we lose Mila, now Khalila? If this continues, Brian, Greg, and Martha won't even crack the top 5!

Next week, we're going "Unplugged." Will it top this week? I'm not sure about that but I think Brian, Dwight, Greg, and Carly will be the stars. Enrique Iglesias will be our guest next week and Zack better be careful not to make any big, blue, Julio Iglesias references!
