Dancing With The Stars: More Like Mission Preposterous - Here's The Rankings Rankings and Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Joseph Braverman
October 12, 2011
America got it wrong.
It was another week for Dancing with the Stars, and another extremely unfair elimination.
Chynna Phillips, the single best female technician of the entire competition (sorry Ricki fans), was eliminated after having a blank out moment during her routine, which ultimately made for an extremely uncomfortable few seconds that seemed to last forever.
This is not the first time someone has blanked out while performing. Jennifer Gray and Kelly Osbourne had blank out moments in their routines, but they made it all the way to the finals because of their dancing potential.
How in the world did Chynna get the finger of shame from the audience after one single flawed dance? Oh, I know – another theme week!
As much as I love these theme weeks, I have to really wonder if they are affecting the votes.
Even though Chaz was easily the worst technician of the entire night, his Rocky routine mixed with his mother in the audience mixed with his underdog status really was a selling point to a lot of fans.
All Chynna had to do was dance to the theme of Mission: Impossible. Um, which one do you all think sounds like more exciting television to watch? Exactly.
I hope that from now on, if they are planning to do theme nights, they should make sure no couple has an unfair advantage.
And I cannot really hate on Ricki and Derek’s dance this week, because I guess having Derek on your side is as advantageous as you can get.
I shake my head in shame, and I know I sound like such a hater and pessimist, but for the love of God, can Ricki dance without Derek’s aid and impeccable choreography?
I have never seen a choreographer make a dancer with clear technical hiccups turn out a ten.
That choreography was masterful, and especially more impactful considering I live and breathe films, and the Psycho theme happens to be one of my favorite scores.
I feel like anyone could have replaced Ricki and the dance would have turned out the same. I have yet to see the big deal over Ricki Lake.
J.R. and David, on the other hand, got the short end of the stick this week.
