Dancing With The Stars: 58 Gets You A Ticket Home
Episode 18 Recap by Jenny Lane
November 20, 2007
Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the four semi-final pairs performed two dances. For the most part, everyone did well, and only four points separated first and last places in the judges' eyes. Here's how the leaderboard looked:

Mel and Maks
Viennese Waltz - 30
Paso Doble - 30
Total - 60

Helio and Julianne
Foxtrot - 30
ChaCha - 30
Total - 60

Jennie and Derek
Tango - 28
ChaCha - 30
Total - 58

Marie and Jonathan
Quickstep - 29
Mambo - 27
Total - 56

Tonight, one more couple will go home, and we'll be left with the three pairs who will advance to next week's finals. I'm bracing myself for yet another week of 36 minutes of fluff, 20 minutes of commercials, and 4 minutes of results. Let's get started!

Len tells us that last night was the best semi-final of any season, but tonight they want to see an encore of Jennie and Derek's ChaCha. I think they may be the only pair that hasn't done an encore before now, so it's good for them to have this chance to do one.

Tonight's special guest is recording artist Avril Lavigne, here to sing her new single, "Hot." I liked Avril when she first emerged, but I guess I'm just over her now. She doesn't look like the interesting teenager anymore. Her hair is straight and blonde, and she's got big fake eyelashes. The only reminder of her former self is her thick, smoky eyeliner. Even her music is less interesting, and her backup singers sound horrible!

After some members from last night's audience weigh in on who should make it to the finals, it's time for some results. The first couple who is safe and moving on to the finals is Marie and Jonathan. Marie looks genuinely shocked, and does a little happy jumping dance.

Next, we have my least favorite part of the show, so I'll just cover it briefly. Former contestant Kenny Mane is back to report on the "ugly side of the sport." The TV show "Extra" is even in on things, and we're shown a "report" on former contestants Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin checking into "Happy Thoughts Dance Rehab." Then Kenny joins Lisa and Harry (as well as former contestants Leila and Tucker) at a dance rehab meeting. He watches their meeting, and then interviews each star about their dancing addiction. Ok, enough of that.

The next guest is known as the "billion dollar dancer" and is the biggest selling dance star ever. Michael Flatley is here to perform a dance he choreographed for the show. Actually, the dance tonight may be from his new show, because Samantha tells us that the dance that he choreographed for the show is for the finale, which isn't until next week. In any case, the dancers are dressed in military attire, but are dancing in Riverdance form, with stationary arms. There isn't any music, but just the sound of the tapping of their feet.

Next, we take a look.....
Jenny lives in the Silicon Valley with her husband, daughter and five furry kids. In addition to all things reality tv, she loves Nip/Tuck, Big Love and the Food Network. She’s addicted to her laptop, so if you’d like to feed her addiction, you can e-mail her at Jenny@RealityTVCalendar.com.
