Dancing With The Stars: Judges Choose Mel And Maks
Episode 20 Recap by Jenny Lane
November 27, 2007

It's finally here, the finale of Dancing with the Stars! Last week, we lost Jennie and Derek. Tonight, the remaining three couples will perform two new dances. First up is a new routine chosen by the judges, followed by the freestyle round. Tomorrow, the winner will be crowned in what I'm sure will be a very lengthy results show.

First in the judges' choice round are Mel and Maks, dancing the ChaCha. Maks is wearing black pants and a loose fitting black shirt, open almost to his waist. Mel is wearing a teeny tiny little red outfit that looks like something the pros would wear. The top is a sequined bra, and the bottom is a sequined bikini with a hunk of fringe stuck to the back, and another piece hanging from the front. The fringe hides her ass, which she seems to like to do. Even so, it's impossible to deny that she has lost a lot of weight over the course of the show. Her hair is pulled back into a tight bun.

Mel and Maks' ChaCha is to "Workin at the Car Wash." Mel starts by running away from Maks and plopping herself on the lap of a guy in the audience. Then Maks runs over and pulls her back onto the dance floor, and the dance begins. I find the dance a little boring, or maybe it's just that I'm growing tired of seeing the same moves over and over. I'm sure it's technically sound, but at the same time it doesn't pull me in.

The audience disagrees with me, and gives Mel and Maks a standing ovation. Showing their support in the audience are Mel's fellow Spice Girls, and Mrs. Beckham looks like an anorexic robot!

Len tells Mel and Maks that their ChaCha showed that they deserve to be in the finals. He says it was crisp, clean, and precise. Bruno tells Mel that she has become an accomplished dancer over the last two months, and says she looks stunning. Carrie Ann also says that Mel looks great. She adds that the dance was good, but she expected a little more excitement.

Carrie Ann and Len give Mel and Maks a score of 9, and Bruno gives them a score of 10, for a total of 28.

Next up are Marie and Jonathan. The judges chose the Samba for them, which is the dance that led to Marie's fainting episode. Jonathan is wearing black pants, black suspenders, and a white shirt. Marie is wearing a very odd yellow and black dress. The dress is yellow, with one long sleeve, and is knee length. That in itself doesn't sound too strange, but it turns odd when you add the ridiculously wide black belt that goes from the top of her hips to the bottom of her chest. The bottom of the dress is fringed and the hemline is angled. Her hair is long and full, but not curly.

As is the case with most of their dances, Marie and Jonathan's Samba has a certain amount of comedy in it. It's also a little frantic, and their smiles look a little forced. I don't know how sexy I find Marie crawling around on the floor or bumping up to Jonathan. As she dances, she reminds me of Charro, which I know shows my age.

Bruno tells Marie that she was entertaining, but technically it wasn't her best dance. Carrie Ann agrees, and says this dance showed Marie's lack of range of motion. Len says that technically, Marie is not the strongest finalist, but she's second to none for entertainment.

The judges all give Marie and Jonathan scores of 8, for a relatively low total of 24.

Our last finalists are Helio and Julianne, dancing the Jive. I don't know what exactly they did with Helio's hair, but he almost looks like a different person. It's kind of fluffed up on the very top, but there has to be something else different that I'm not noticing. Anyway, he's wearing black jeans and a pink shirt, unbuttoned at the collar and sleeves rolled up. The jeans have big cuffs on the bottom that are sequined.

Julianne looks cute in a 50's style pink and black plaid skirt that is short, full and lined with layers of pink and black. She's also wearing a black shirt and a short pink sweater. Her hair is pulled back into a high ponytail and is tied with a long pink scarf, and her shoes look like pink saddle shoes. Their dance is to "The Twist" which of course fits their outfits. The movements fit the song and costumes, and Helio doesn't look as comical as he sometimes does.

Carrie Ann tells Helio and Julianne.....
