Dancing With The Stars: The Cheap Disco Ball Trophy Goes To....
Episode 21 Recap by Jenny Lane
November 28, 2007
Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the final three couples performed for the last time this season. Here's how the judges scored their dances:
Mel and Maks
ChaCha - 28
Freestyle - 27
Total - 55
Helio and Julianne
Jive - 25
Freestyle - 29
Total - 54
Marie and Jonathan
Samba - 24
Freestyle - 22
Total - 46
Tonight, the winner will be crowned! Did the viewers choose Mel's technical skills, Marie's entertainment appeal, or Helio's combination of both? I think it could be any one of them, so regardless of how it turns out, I'll be partially surprised. As is always the case for a final results show, I'm braced for a painfully long and drawn out two hour results show!
After a look back on last night's performances, Samantha (she's losing the baby weight but not the mommy boobs!) is backstage with the three finalists. She asks everyone what they'll miss the most from the show. Marie cracks a joke and says she's going to "miss the number eight," since she received so many scores of eight. Then she gives the expected answer, she's going to miss the friendships. Mel also says she's going to miss the cast and crew. Helio says he's going to miss Julianne.
The unquestionably huge superstar, but one of my least favorite singers of all time is in the studio to sing tonight. It's Celine Dion, singing the sappy and overplayed "My Heart Will Go On." I can't resist the urge to fast forward, but not before I notice that she's starting to show her age. Whenever I've seen her in the past, her skin has been flawless. Tonight, she looks a little leathery. Dancing along with Celine are several of the professionals.
Back from commercial, it looks like we're actually going to get some results already! The couple who has come in third place is Marie and Jonathan. I can't say that I'm not a little surprised, and I also can't deny that I'm more than a little relieved. Marie doesn't seem surprised, but she does look disappointed. The judges and audience give Marie and Jonathan a standing ovation. Marie says that this has been like a Cinderella story for her, and adds that Jonathan pulled her through these tough weeks. After a look back at their journey, they perform an encore of their Tango.
We've got over an hour and a half left, so now it's time to waste some time. Our first time waster is a piece covering some of the drama that surrounded this season. I expected it to be about fainting and funerals, but it was actually just short clips of some of the performances from the first few weeks.
Josie and Alec, the first couple to be eliminated, are back with their Foxtrot. I had actually forgotten that she was even on the show, but that's not enough to keep me interested in their dance tonight. Next, we take a look at how a sense of humor came into play with the couples. Of course Marie is a jokester, and she and Jonathan spent a lot of time laughing. Mel and Maks did more making fun of each other than joking around. Helio and Julianne were like goofy little kids.
The next performance is from Albert and Anna. They were the second couple to be eliminated, and are back to dance their ChaCha. The next piece looks back on how the women started to dominate the men in week four. We also see Carrie Ann's obsession with the couples doing lifts, and Samantha returns from maternity leave.
The third eliminated couple is Wayne and Cheryl. Instead of dancing, they come out to talk to Tom and Samantha. Wayne tells us that he's dealing with some health issues, so the doctors told him not to dance. Then we take a look at the support that the finalists got from their friends and family. Some of the Spice Girls talk about Mel, all except for Skeletor, I mean Mrs. Beckham.
The fourth eliminated couple.....
