DWTS: “Two Instruments That Played Together Forever"
Episode 16 Recap by Jenny Lane
November 11, 2008
Last week on Dancing with the Stars, the six couples each danced an individual dance. In addition, the pairs formed two teams, with three couples on each team. One team danced the Paso Doble, and the other team danced the ChaCha. The judges scored the team dances, and those scores were added to each couple’s individual dance score. Team Paso did well and wowed the judges, earning a score of 29. Team ChaCha didn’t fare as well, and earned a score of 20. In their individual dances, Brooke and Derek came out on top, and received the first perfect 30 of the season.

After the two dances were scored, new couple Cody and Edyta found themselves in last place. Golden couple Brooke and Derek were in the lead. After the viewers voted, it was Susan and Tony who were sent home.

Tom and Samantha open the evening by reminding us that we’re only two weeks away from the finals. Samantha is wearing a strapless dark blue gown tonight. Her hair is pulled back and has a very odd hump on one side. It’s parted on the right side and then slicked back, but on the left side, it’s kind of swept up as it’s slicked back, which creates an odd wave shaped hump.

The five remaining couples are introduced, and Edyta is here again instead of Julianne. I really don’t mean to be catty, but Cheryl looks like she’s getting bigger every week. I know that she came out and said that she has struggled with her weight, and admitted that she’s five pounds heavier than last season, but there’s no way that this is five pounds.

Tonight, the couples will be performing a ballroom dance and also a Latin dance. In addition, the stars will have to perform a 15 second solo in their Latin dance. Len says he thinks tonight is going to be fantastic, and the judges are all looking forward to the solos.

The first couple tonight is Cody and Edyta, who ended up in last place last week. Cody struggles during rehearsals, so some of his adorable little friends come in to give him some moral support. Actually, it looks like they really just came to gawk at Edyta.

Cody and Edyta’s first dance tonight is the Foxtrot. Cody is wearing a black suit and tie, with a lavender shirt. Edyta is wearing a long slinky lavender dress. It’s low cut in front and as usual, the sides are missing. The back is seriously low cut. It’s even more obvious when they get into the ballroom hold, because Edyta then arches her back. The top edge of the back of the dress is edged in sequins, so that also draws attention to her almost showing ass.

As for Cody and Edyta’s Foxtrot, I don’t think I get this dance. I find it boring, no matter what the couples do with it. Cody looks very stiff to me, especially when they’re in the ballroom hold. When they do some side by side dancing, he loosens up a bit. It doesn’t help any that he looks a little like he’s dancing with his mom (Sorry Edyta!).

Len says he was pleasantly surprised, the footwork was pretty good, and they did a “really top notch job.” I guess that’s proof that I don’t get this dance. Bruno says Cody looked sophisticated, and it was his most grown up performance. Carrie Ann says she loved it, and he did well adapting to his new partner. Then she scolds them for doing a lift, and says she’s going to mark them down for it.

Carrie Ann gives Cody and Edyta a score of eight. So do Bruno and Len, so that gives them a total of 24.

The next couple is Brooke and Derek, with the Tango. Derek is wearing a black suit, black shirt, and a red tie. Brooke is wearing a long red dress. Earlier, they showed us the clip of when Carrie Ann told Brooke that she was starting to dance like the professionals. This dress looks just like one that the professionals would wear. It’s sleeveless and has a high neck, but the sides and back are both gone. Brooke’s dress also has a weird black belt type thing. The center section of the front of the dress is only a few inches wide, because of the sides being missing. This black belt starts where the front of the dress ends, wraps around the back, and then connects to the other side. It’s the only black on the dress and really looks strange. There are also two mile high slits in the skirt, so her legs completely show as she moves around.

Brooke and Derek’s Tango is.....
