DWTS: It's A Samba Smackdown For The Final Three
Episode 20 Recap by Jenny Lane
November 25, 2008
Last week was the Dancing with the Stars semifinals. The four couples each danced two new dances. The judges put Lance and Lacey at the top of the pack by a wide margin of eight points. Cody and Julianne, with Julianne back from her surgery, found themselves at the bottom of the group.
After the audience weighed in, the first two couples that were told they were moving on to the finals were Lance and Lacey, and Brooke and Derek. Given Lance and Lacey’s strong performances last week, it wasn’t a surprise that they moved on. Despite Brooke and Derek’s weak first dance last week, their strong performances over the rest of the season were more than enough for them to move on.
In the end, it was Cody and Julianne who were eliminated from the competition. For once, I completely agree with the viewers, and think that the right three couples are in the finals.
And now, before I even see the final show, I’m going to make a prediction. While I’m not ready to say who is definitely going to win, I am ready to rule one of the three couples out. I don’t think that Lance and Lacey are going to win it, regardless of how they perform in the finals. Now the exception could be if Brooke and Derek fall flat on their faces. If that happens, and if Lance and Lacey have the performances of their lifetime, then they could pull it off.
The finale begins with promises of a “Samba smackdown” and the “highly anticipated freestyle.” Tonight we’ll have the performances, and tomorrow we’ll have our winner!
Tom welcomes us to the show, and the three final couples are lined up in front of the orchestra. They’re all wearing yellow, so they must be dressed for their Sambas. But before we get to dancing, we have some time wasting to do. Apparently the couples have each picked their favorite ballroom and Latin dances, and we’re going to take another look at them.
Brooke and Derek say that their favorite ballroom dance was their Quickstep at the beginning of the season. Derek, always humble, says “if we did that dance now, we’d get all tens, because it was flawless.” We actually are shown the entire dance again – yikes, it’s going to be a long night. The music is old fashioned, and they’re both dressed in black and white. Brooke’s dress is low in back, but still pretty conservative compared to what she’s been wearing lately.
As for Latin, Brooke and Derek choose their Paso Doble. Derek says this one was “a solid performance from start to finish.” For this, Derek is all in black, and Brooke is in a long red and black dress. I do remember this one, I think because of the mean look on Brooke’s face, as well as her huge skirt flying around.
Derek tells us that Brooke is the most consistent competitor, a winner, is the best dancer, has the highest scores, and should be the champion because of all of that.
Back in the studio, Tom talks to Brooke and Derek. Brooke says last week’s setback is behind them, and they’ve been thinking positive since then. Tom asks about Warren, and if he has been trying to psych people out. Brooke giggles, and Derek dodges the question.
Lance and Lacey say that their best ballroom was their Tango. Lance says it was fun, creative, and risky. Their Tango was the one that looked like they were corpse dolls or something.
For their Latin dance, Lance and Lacey pick their Mambo. This was the one that they just recently did, and it was the one where Lacey was wearing a short dress with a blue tail sprouting out of her ass. Lance says they weren’t even focusing on the Mambo that week, they were actually thinking that their Jitterbug was going to be more successful.
Lacey says Lance is the most.....
