Dancing With The Stars 7: Misty-May's Gone & The Rankings Change
Rankings by Melissa B.
As of October 9, 2008
This was one of the most anticlimactic episodes of Dancing with the Stars ever.
Many viewers had heard rumors of Misty May-Treanor’s injury on the Internet or entertainment programs and anticipated her withdrawal from the program. Tom and Samantha kept saying that she would be appearing in just a few minutes, but she didn’t actually speak until the end of the show.
It was disappointing that a dancer with such potential was taken out of the competition before we got to see her at her best, and I hate that Maks is out of the running for the mirror ball.
It’s getting to the point in the show where the fatigue is setting in and injury becomes a definite worry for the dancers. At this point, we start seeing who has what it takes to make the finals and who will slowly but surely be cut out of the picture.
With dark horse Misty out, who knows who may step up?
I am anticipating a fierce competition this season, but hopefully there are no more injuries to the stars or their professional partners.
Here are my rankings for the week:
Brooke Burke
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 3
Brooke’s Viennese waltz was lovely this week. It was a smooth dance with nice lines. Derek choreographed a routine similar to his and Shannon’s beautiful waltz from last season, and I see Brooke being the first model to make it to the finale. She was awarded the first 10 of the competition, from Len no less. She has natural flexibility and dancing ability, and she has proved she is more than a pretty face.
Warren Sapp
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 1
Warren’s dance was entertaining, quick, and proved his likeliness t o make it to the end. He was excellent in hold and had great control of Kym in their turns. He needs to perform more to the audience and stop concentrating so much on the steps. His dance seemed more difficult than some of his competitors, and he has proved he deserves to make it farther. He gives Kym a definite chance at the mirror ball.
Lance Bass
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 1
Even though I still appreciate Lance and Lacey’s uniqueness and what they bring to the table, they simply aren’t connecting with the judges. Despite their traditional waltz, Len still gave them the same score, and they probably lost some supporters who loved their modern style. The dance had nice lines and good up and down motion, but it was just so boring compared to their previous efforts. Lance has to find a good blend of uniqueness and traditional moves to make it to the end.
Cody Linley
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 4
Cody and Julianne’s jive had tons of energy and was entertaining, but for the first time, I felt his dancing was a little awkward. There wasn’t enough traditional jive in there for me, and I preferred some of Julianne’s choreography from other seasons to this. Cody has supporters in younger viewers, but he can be forgettable. He will need to make significant progress to win this season.
Toni Braxton
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 5
Toni’s dance was certainly memorable. I liked the concept, but I think people will remember the dress and wig more than her dancing skills. She was good in hold and had some nice turns. Toni was a little slow this week, but I suspect the dress was holding her back. I think Toni has potential, but she will have to find a way to stand out more to gain viewers support.
Maurice Green
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 8
Maurice is energetic and a strong partner, two elements necessary to make it far in this show. Unfortunately, Warren has stolen most of the thunder as the most talented athlete on the show, and I have a feeling Maurice isn’t at the top of viewers’ favorites. I like him, but I don’t think he will surpass some of the stronger dancers.
Susan Lucci
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 7
Though I still love Susan’s personality, she is not progressing enough in her dancing to be a force to reckon with. She is still stiff, and her routine was very simple. She needs to kick up the energy a notch and loosen up if she wants to last.
Chloris Leachman
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 10
She is always funny, but she barely danced in this week’s routine. Once the wig came off, she was so distracted and completely forgot the dance. Corky was completely leading her around the floor, and at this point, personality is no longer enough.
Rocco Dispirito
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 9
Rocco was a mess this week. He was still awkward with his partner, and he made major mistakes in the routine. To me, it seemed like he almost dropped Karina when trying a difficult move. It was a strange song and routine, which only made things worse for this doomed pair. It was revealed that Rocco would have gone home had Misty not been injured. I see his departure in the near future.
Misty-May Treanor
4th Elimination - Due to injury.
Misty withdrew from the competition after rupturing her Achilles tendon.
Kim Kardashian
3rd Elimination
Kim was eliminated this week after failing to loosen up.
Ted McGinley
2nd Elimination
Jeffrey Ross
1st Elimination
