Hell's Kitchen - Quiet Time With Chef Ramsay
Recap by Brian Sikorsky
June 7, 2007

This week on "Hell's Kitchen" we go back into the world of Hell's Kitchen with a whole new group of people looking for a shot. Everyone we have known from the past is back. Of course there is the one and only, Gordon Ramsay, who is joined, as always, by Sous Chef MaryAnn and Sous Chef Scott. Jean Philippe is back running the dining room.

The show starts with some "Quiet time with Chef Ramsay" in which he tells the television audience that this season of "Hell's Kitchen" will be different. He says the contestants will be competent and not make mistakes. He also says that he will not scream and will not swear. I remember he made the promise not swear before in an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" on the BBC. He told the restaurant owner that every time he swore he would but a coin in the swear jar. Needless to say, at the end of the episode they had a rather large amount of money. On a separate note, I see that FOX will be creating an American version of "Kitchen Nightmares" which I think will be very interesting.

After making his list of promises he obviously said, "Who am I kidding?"

We then saw a recap of the past two seasons including a quick glimpse of the two past winners. We saw Michael at the TATOU supper club in L.A. and Heather at Terra Rosa in Las Vegas. Then we see some clips of the horror show that will be this season of "Hell's Kitchen" including a groan educing paint ball session as well as ominous clips of contestants appearing to turn on Chef Ramsay and the voice of Sous Chef Scott saying "Don't die. Don't die on me now".

We shall see.

We then get to see each of the contestants as they arrive to Hell's Kitchen in big stretched rides. They arrive to a totally redesigned Hell's Kitchen where they meet Jean Philippe who introduces himself and starts by telling his story. Gordon then appears on the balcony above then and tells Jean Philipe to shut it and instructs the contestants to get in the kitchen and make their signature dishes.

Now if anyone has watched this show in the past or even any of his other shows on the BBC then you know that Gordon loves simply and well-executed dishes. Obviously judging by the dishes that are about to be presented either these people have never seen an episode of "Hell's Kitchen" or don't listen closely.

The first cook up is Vinnie who made a Chorizo Encrusted Snapper. Gordon couldn't find the snapper and said that it was too spicy. Vinnie disagreed and started a small argument with Chef Ramsay.

Next was Joanna a Chefs Assistant who served Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Whole Wheat Spaghetti paired with a Raspberry Bellini. Gordon quickly asks her to remove the drink and says the food is salty and dry.

Rock, the executive chef, serves Scallops with Pan Seared Gnocchi. Gordon says he's impressed that he had enough time to make gnocchi. Rock confesses that they were frozen. Chef Ramsay was insulted that he was served frozen food and Rock kicked himself for not executing his dish well.

Bonnie the Nanny/Personal Chef is next with her Contemporary Cheese Course. She is the one that is most scared of Gordon. She says he's so scary that she's going to pee her pants. When Chef Ramsay begins to approach her dish, she instructs him to start to eat it from the other direction. He asks him if it would make a difference in the experience and says there's a first time for everything. After tasting he asks her if she's new to cooking. When she answers yes, he tells he it shows.

Then comes Eddie, the self described chiwawa in a bulldog's body who's growth was stunted due to kidney disease. He presents Gordon with Parmesan crusted scallops in a vermouth cream sauce. Gordon then calls Brad up with his scallop tourine with proscutto vanilla cream and asks each of the to taste the others entrée. Brad says that Eddie's scallops are good but Gordon says they are raw. Eddie says that Brad's vanilla flavor ruined it. Gordon agreed and commended Eddie for his palette.

When Chef Ramsay reviles Jen's dish.....
