Hell's Kitchen - Let's Play Name That Taste!
Episode 4 Recap by Brian Sikorsky
June 26, 2007

This week on "Hell's Kitchen" we start with a recap of last week's disastrous service. Jen was still upset at herself for the decision she made to pull spaghetti out of the garbage and try to serve it. Her feelings weren't soothed by Vinnie who proceeded to add insult to injury. The next morning, Gordon tells the chefs that he wants to test their palettes to see if they have any skills. Blindfolded and with loud music blaring in their ears from gigantic headphones, each chef will have to correctly identify the food that is in their mouth.

First up are Julia and Brad and a piece of American cheese. Julia correctly identifies it while Brad says its "Cheese, Cheddar to be exact." Oh Brad. Both identify fried chicken correctly while neither of them identifies boiled carrots.

Next is Melissa and Rock. Rock correctly ID's a boiled egg yolk, both of them guess the boiled potato correctly but neither of them identify the venison.

Josh cannot correctly identify a single item while Bonnie misses the lobster but gets the bok choy and pear.

With the score 5-3 in the women favor, Vinnie is the great hope. He has to correctly identify tuna to keep the men in the challenge. He doesn't and the women win again.

The ladies are to be treated to an amazing dining experience while the men have to prep both kitchens for the evening's dinner service. In addition, Chef Ramsay wants them to increase their palettes so he is serving them a lunch of tripe, kidneys, liver and stomach.

The ladies get dressed while Vinnie accused Bonnie of cheating. He says that she could hear what Chef Ramsay was saying.

While the men are doing the prep work, Gordon takes the ladies to Opaque. A trendy restaurant that serves its food in a pitch-black dining room so that your taste senses are increased. What ever. So while the girls are having a posh dinner in the dark with Chef Ramsay, the guys are being treated to a plate of unwanted parts from Sous Chef Scott. Rock isn't getting the food down very well and has to excuse himself from the table. The girls get back and rest before dinner while the guys are still forging ahead in their prep.

Before dinner starts, Chef Ramsay tells them that tonight the customers will be getting comment cards and these cards will decide the winning and loosing teams.

Right out of the gate, Josh sends an undercooked Risotto to the pass and Gordon has to send it back to him. Julia overcooks the scallops and slows Melissa down. Melissa is pushing Julia to give her an answer of how long and when Julia answers, Melissa isn't listening. As a result, Melissa is finishing risotto while Julia is not ready which sends Gordon into a tizzy.

Josh is standing around not doing anything once he got his apps out and has to be screamed at by Chef Ramsay to get moving and help someone. Next to him, Vinnie has overcooked four Wellingtons and asks Chef Ramsay for 15 minutes so he can make more. This obviously doesn't sit well with Gordon Ramsay.

In the red kitchen, Melissa is trying to help Bonnie who is having trouble on the meat station. When one of the chicken breasts is raw, Melissa slices it and places it in the oven to help it cook faster. Gordon sees the sliced chicken and blasts Bonnie for it.

Vinnie is still having trouble.....
