Hell's Kitchen - Ramsay Is Speachless!
Episode 5 Recap by Brian Sikorsky
June 26, 2007
This week on "Hell's Kitchen" I wanted to reach inside of the TV and beat the living hell out of Melissa but I won't get into that just yet. I mean she just got me so worked up. Argh! Anyway, when the episode started Rock and Josh were arguing over Rock's selection of Josh for elimination. Bonnie on the other hand is feeling ignored by her teammates. She is crying because when she was up for elimination and allowed to stay none of the other chefs tried to speak to her or console her on the ever so long walk back to the dorms. Damn it Bonnie! Take some Valium or something! You are starting to annoy the shit out of me. You are in a frigin' kitchen for crying out loud.
The next morning Sous Chef Scott calls the dorm and tells the chefs to come outside to the SUV's. The men are excited to be leaving the kitchen since they have yet to win and have been stuck indoors for some time. The chefs are taken Bristol Farms where they meet up with Chef Ramsay. He tells them that he has agreed to do something in Hell's Kitchen that has never been done before. They will be catering a wedding reception. He says each team will have $100 and 30 minutes to come up with an appetizer, a fish course and a meat entrée and the team with the best menu will win.
After running around the grocery store and debating what they should server the chefs make it to the checkout with just moments to spare. The red team spends $97.50 while the blue team spends 137.20 and has to make some quick decisions to save some cash. They finally get the total down to $99.50 and are good to go.
The teams are back in the kitchen and have one hour to debate, plan and prep. Unfortunately the teams seem to be debating more than anything else. In the red kitchen Melissa is taking control against everyone's wishes. She tells the red team that she is going to lead them which makes Julia murmur, "That's been helping." Julia approaches Bonnie to ask a question when Melissa cries out "Don't ask Bonnie, ask me", which didn't sit very well with crybaby Bonnie.
In the blue kitchen the men are overcooking some of their items, which is not a good thing since they don't have much to work with. Back in the red kitchen, Julia has pulled the duck breast out of the oven so it won't overcook and Melissa puts it back in so it won't be cold. Julia warns her not to bitch when it's over cooked which in the end it was. Of course.
Once the cooking has completed, Chef Ramsay has a bit of a surprise. He tells the teams that the bride and groom will be the ones deciding the winners. He introduces the happy couple, Carlota and Cyrus. Melissa chimes in and tells Gordon that "We shouldn't serve our food." Chef Ramsay brushes her off and tells the team to present their appetizers. The red team serves a puff pastry with strawberries, which reminds the couple of a dessert so they choose the blue teams' crab appetizer.
The fish course is next and the red team presents a sea bass with bacon and collard greens and the blue team serves a corvina with a butter foam sauce that the couple finds a bit odd. So with an odd butter foam, the ladies tie up the competition.
Next Chef Ramsay calls for the meat dishes to be delivered and when Jen of the red team reaches for the covered dish, Melissa is telling her not to present it. Gordon gets annoyed with Melissa and demands to dish to be brought forth. When the two teams take the lids off of their dishes, Gordon sees why Melissa was so adamant about not serving it. Chef Ramsay places his head down in embarrassment. The blue team presents a dry aged pan-seared rib eye with a mushroom cream sauce while the women present an overcooked and dry duck breast just sitting there by itself with no garnish on a plate. Yummers! It goes without saying that the couple chose the duck.
JUST KIDDING! Of course they chose the ribeye. I couldn't even believe that Chef Ramsay let them take a bite of the duck. He finally pulled it away. With two selections for the blue team, the men finally won a competition.
After the couple leaves, Gordon Ramsay seems speechless.....
