Hell's Kitchen - A White Knuckle Thrill Ride
Episode 8 Recap by Brian Sikorsky
July 26, 2007
In the kitchen, Bonnie takes a whiff of a pan of monkfish and throws it out. A few moments later Sous Chef MaryAnn is looking for the fish and when Bonnie confesses that she put it in the trash MaryAnn is not at all pleased. She has Bonnie pull the fish out of the trash to be checked. MaryAnn says it smells fine and asks fellow Sous Chef Scott for a second opinion. He says smells like monkfish and it goes back in the trash because we already learned that we shouldn't cook anything that came out of the garbage can. Sous Chef MaryAnn tells Bonnie that that was the last of the monkfish and they are going to have to get another delivery. Take a guess… Does Bonnie cry at this point? She does! SHOCKING!
Back from Las Vegas, Julia is telling her fellow chefs about he new love of the bidet and reveals that they got some pointers from Heather.
Later in the kitchen, the men and women have to COME TOGETHER in order to have a smooth and successful dinner. Josh is on apps and has to set the dinner off on a good pace while Julia is on the vegetable/garnish station for the first time. To "help" Josh has started to sandbag (a kitchen term for pre-cooking items to be ahead which gets food out faster but lowers the quality) risottos. Chef Ramsay notices the extra 4 risottos and questions Josh about his actions. Rock over cooks a scallop order while Josh is caught again sandbagging. This time he has extra spaghetti cooking. He swears to Chef Ramsay that he will stop and he is left alone.
Julia begins to STRUGGLE in the garnish station while Bonnie receives some praise for the cooking of her Wellingtons. After a few moments, Chef Ramsay notices that Josh has at least four orders of pasta cooking when he should only be making one. Gordon looses it. As Chef Ramsay is steaming, a guest in the dinning room complains to Jean Philipe about their risotto. Needless to say the dish is return and Chef Ramsay's blood pressure goes through the roof. He tells Josh to GIVE UP HIS JACKET AND GET OUT. He follows him to make sure he leaves his jacket behind and calls him a "useless piece of s**t", which I think we already knew.
With Josh gone, the four remaining chefs were left to finish the dinner service. The dinner runs smooth except for a delay from the garnish station. Julia starts to cry but gets her food out in the end. Then ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. Jen tells Rock she will be ready in 45 seconds and to wait. A few moments later Chef Ramsay calls for the scallops and decides to listen to his chef instead of waiting for Jen, which ticks her off a bit. This STARTS THE WAR. Jen and Rock spend the rest of the dinner service picking at each other and arguing. Chef Ramsay hears them going at it and tells them to stop. They don't and he slams his hand against the stainless steel sheeting and says "ENOUGH!"
They still continue.
After dinner service, Chef Ramsay praises Bonnie for having her best service yet and informs her to select two for an elimination nomination. That's right folks! He's sending two home tonight.
Bonnie talks about Rocks attitude and temper and says she will be picking him. She says she cannot decide between Jen and Julia. I personally think that if she put Rock up there she should but Jen up there since it takes two to tango. In the personal interviews we hear Rock talking about how he screwed up and he starts to cry.
Back in front of Chef Ramsay, she quickly names Rock as her first choice. Good. Second is Julia. This is a dumb move. Not only did she not select the guilty party, she didn't select her biggest competition. Idiot.
After hearing the pleading of the two nominees, Gordon says he has a very tough decision. On one side he has a man who is completely driven to win and on the other is a woman who has made significant improvements every day.
He STRUGGLES with a decision and finally decides that the person leaving Hell's Kitchen would be Julia. He then tells her that he wants to personally pay to have her attend culinary school and he also invites her back to Hell's Kitchen to win.
