Kid Nation: Viva La Revolución!
Episode 5 Recap by Jenny Lane
October 18, 2007
Last week on Kid Nation, several of the kids' conversations turned to religion. The next entry the council read in the 'journal' suggested that they start having church services of some kind. This idea sparked heated debate among the kids, most of whom were against the idea of one church service for all beliefs. In the first unanimous action, nobody in town opted to attend the council-run service. Later that night, Morgan organized a casual prayer group around a bonfire, which everyone in town seemed to enjoy.
The next showdown was to put together a puzzle in the shape of a steeple. Blue wins the showdown, and became the new upper class. Red came in second and became the merchants. Much to the other districts' dismay, yellow came in third and became the cooks again. Green came in last, which meant they were the laborers.
The reward choices were a miniature golf course or a selection of holy books. The council let the town vote on which reward to choose, and the majority chose to get the holy books.
Taylor and her pals refused to get to their chore of cooking, so Zach gathered members of all different districts together to help with the cooking and dishes.
At the next town meeting, several kids spoke up about Taylor's poor work ethic. Taylor smiled and yelled back insults through the criticism, and I doubt she'll make any changes. Cody decided that he was too homesick, and decided to go home. Morgan was awarded the gold star and the phone call home.
This week's episode begins with Zach trying to wake up the rest of the yellow district. He goes into the bunkhouse and tells the girls to get up and help him in the kitchen. Taylor doesn't want to get up, so the rest of the girls follow her lead and refuse to help out.
Anjay tries to get the blue district up to help out, even though they're the upper class. He has about as much success as Zach did, but at least the blue district is allowed to be kind of lazy. As he leaves, several of his district comment on the fact that they don't respect him as a leader.
The council goes to the chapel to read the next entry in the journal. This entry talks about leadership. It says that sometimes town leadership needs to be changed, and suggests that they hold an election. All four councilmembers look less than thrilled, because they know their leadership position is in jeopardy.
The council heads to the dining hall to tell the kids about the election. There, they find the kids having a big food fight. Anjay tries to get the food fight to stop, but the kids turn on him instead. Anjay gets mad and throws some food back, which for some reason gets Olivia mad. She yells at Anjay for throwing food, and says he's being "real mature." Anjay tells us that Olivia is always nitpicking at him and he's getting sick of it.
Laurel announces that today's journal entry talked about leadership. Mike announces that they're going to hold an election, and all the kids cheer. The districts will remain the same, and each kid will vote for one candidate who is running in their district. Sophia decides to stir up the pot, and asks the council if they're sure that they'll keep their positions. The council kind of hedges the question and doesn't really give her an answer.
Outside, Zach is planning his campaign speech for the yellow district. Anjay is by himself when Olivia comes up to him. He tells her that he wants some time to think by himself, and she says "okay, I'm running against you, just so you know."
The green district has a meeting to decide who is going to run. Laurel says she's worried because she has strong leaders like Sophia, Michael and Morgan. Sophia asks the rest of the green district if there is anyone who wouldn't vote for Laurel. Nobody raises their hands, but Michael says that if he was in any other district, he would run. Laurel says she's surprised and happy. Sophia tells us that if she was a leader, she wouldn't do as well as Laurel is doing.
The councilmembers gather.....
